Is it a good movie? Yes!

A Customer from Brighton, 20th May, 2006

Get beyond the hype, sit back and enjoy a good story, a few scares and some good twists. There isn't a dull moment. My only negative would be that the book makes the lead characters a bit more personable - Hanks is a bit too plastic and the chemistry between him and Tautou is non existent. Is it a good movie? Yes!

The Code's no cracker...

A Customer from Marlow, England, 28th June, 2006

Disclaimer: I would like to state that that I am not a religious zealot (quite the opposite in fact), and nor have I read the book. Right, now we've got that covered, I am free to slate this appalling piece of cinema with impartial abandon. Now I am a fan of independent cinema as a general rule (yes, yes, cinematic/literary snob alert), but that doesn't mean to say that I don't appreciate the finer points of a good Hollywood blockbuster. Unfortunately the only good things to be said for this film come in the shape of Sir Ian McKellen and Paul Bettany. Nothing new there then. As for the usually magnetic Audrey Tautou... Why, why has she done this to herself? Perhaps her performance was intended to be a parody of some kind? She and Hanks are banal, disappointingly uninspiring for actors of their calibre and have so little chemistry that they seem to be looking through rather than at each other. Ordinarily I am all in favour of anything that gets up the Pope's nose, but if it's a good religious conspiracy theory you're after, I thoroughly recommend going elsewhere. In fact just go elsewhere full stop - bad acting, bad script, bad direction, bad cinematography... Did anyone else notice that every shot of London (just in case we forgot where they were, presumably) contained at least one Routemaster, black cab and/or red telephone box? Having been quite lengthy on the subject, however, I think I can sum up this film with a single adjective: ludicrous.

Break the code

Mbub from Westbury, Wilts, 12th June, 2007

This film is about Robert Langdon, a man brought in to help with a murder in a Paris Gallery. With his help can the mystery surrounding Jesus Christ be solved at long last? Without the book, of the same name, this movie would have been very creditable, the problem is that the book was so successful the film came and went as a lame duck. Nothing new was added to it and although I did find it interesting, even having already read the book, it really is nothing more than an average film. Only watch this if you haven't already read the book, otherwise it will be a let down.

Perfectly acceptable...a must see...

PaulaWestwood from , 25th May, 2006

Two of us had read the book, one hadn't, and we all rated the film very highly.

As a representation of the book the film is quite accurate, though obviously it does not have the full detail that is possible in book form.

Away from that, as a standalone film it is very good, entertaining, and to some degree educational.

This is a film that is well worthy of watching, you should definately ignore the negative reports, and go and see this one for yourself.

From page turner to slow burner

A Customer from bearwood, 20th March, 2010

Slow, predictable, poor acting and as clunky as a load of metal bolts thrown into an old tumble dryer. This is rubbish. OK, sometimes it looks nice, but thats it. Where's the thrill? Where's the WOW? Considering how exciting the book was at times, how could they get this so wrong? Heres a code for director Ron Howard: PARC SI SIHT

Not as good as the book

DJR60 from , 19th March, 2010

I found it pretty light weight. Acting was OK. The mad monk was pretty good. Fairly pacy but didn't really care what happened to the characters.

Da Vinci Code

A Customer from Winchester, 10th March, 2010

Well I've not read the book, & to be honest there was so much hype about this film I wasn't sure whether to watch or not. Usually when everyone says 'must see it' I don't enjoy the film BUT I was surprised with this one. Great to see Jean Reno in this, played the plodding policeman really well.....& as for Ian McKellan's role - brilliant. (must have had fun playing that role!!)
