Radio Times

Not the Joe Dante Jaws parody, but a TV movie based on the same John Sayles script. Flesh and ferocity are the order of the day as scientists William Katt and Alexandra Paul accidentally let loose some genetically modified snappers into the tributary running through the holiday resort of Lost River. Scott Levy's horror movie remake is devoid of the knowing references that always make Dante's films so much fun. It takes the premise far too seriously and is overly preoccupied with blood-letting special effects at the expense of character development and suspense.

Average TV Movie

Genetically mutated pirranah are released into a local river which then leads into a summer camp resort, that is the premises for the plot of this kind of jaws alternative. The main effects within this movie are much better than the 1970's film with plenty of blood pouring into the water from humans and animals alike. The parts are acted pretty well with the main role standing up particually well ( as they try and convince the authorities that killer pirranah are let lose into the local river system. Passed a bank holiday afternoon for me, doubt i would watch it a second time but the film is not bad

This is a good remake of the 70s film Piranha. This one is also worth a watch.

Bloody,gory and very nasty

metallimum from leicestershire, 18th June, 2005

This remake of Pirahna is gory than the original. When I first saw this movie (the remake) it looked like a TV version remake of the original but as I carried on watching it it just got too gory to be shown on TV. This one is much gorier than the original, the special effects are superb and the acting is good as well. William Katt plays a good Paul which was so well played by Bradford Dillman in the original and Alexandra Paul does a fairly good job as the detective determined to find the truth about a millionare's missing daughter and who may find out the danger that they are about to face.

The remake has certain aspects changed but the main story is still there...Pirahnas attacking a camp and a big condo about to go under. If you love the original then sit back in the pool and watch pirahna, just be careful, they could be in your pool!

A complete and utter waste of time. Plastic fish and plastic acting. Don't bother with it.
