Radio Times

And wouldn't her family like to know? Produced by Robert Aldrich, who directed Bette Davis and Joan Crawford in the classic gothic drama What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, this scary story isn't quite in the same class. Ruth Gordon poses as a housekeeper to Geraldine Page, who's got into the unpleasant habit of disposing of her domestic help. Director Lee H Katzin contrives a baleful bitches' brew of women at war with each other, and he maintains the suspense with considerable skill right up to the nail-biting conclusion.

Camp classic

I had no idea what to expect of this film. I'd recently watched 'Harold & Maude' and instantly took a liking to Ruth Gordan so i rented this out purely on her being in it. Once again she was a delight as was Geraldine Page. Its a great little thriller and definately worth a watch.

The acting would have been better if all the cast had worn Stockings over their expressions, the music sounded as if it had been imported from some of those Alien/Cemetery films of the 30`s where Bella Lugosi appeared out of nowhere and the mist whirled eerily over the ground. A must miss in my opion

Dated but watchable

A Customer from Surrey, 6th July, 2007

Geraldine Page is very good as the psychotic killer and Ruth Gordon is always good value which makes this film watchable. However, the film looks and feels very dated and has a cheap feel to it and the support cast give very one dimensional performances.

Creepy & stylish movie!

gav worlledge from Bedford, UK, 24th November, 2005

very creepy little movie..and one not to be missed! Geraldine Page is fantastic as the lead..quite frightening watching her lose control and go from happy to evil in a blink of the eye. Ruth gordon excels as mrs Dimmock on the hunt for clues about her employer. With a huge nod towards the cassic 'Psycho, this film oozes style and pace. It plays like an episode of Murder She Wrote without the comedy! Excellent!
