A must for all Rom-Com fans

I hadn't heard of this movie so wasn't expecting much. But I found it thoroughly enjoyable, despite a somewhat cheesy 'twist' ending. The film kicks off with an unlikely (for me, more's the pity) mile-high one-night stand between two complete strangers. At this point, he plays a drifter of few words (but some entrepreneurial ambitions) and she plays a sassy girl at the end of what one imagines was a rebellious teenage period. Except that he doesn't want to remain a stranger and, despite his lack of gumption, the relationship resumes 3 years later when she picks up the phone on a rebound. By this point our hero has started a dot com business (in an unlikely field), and our heroine is a failing actress. Nothing serious happens, tho these two see each other every year or two. Over this period his business grows dramatically (if unplausibly), leaving him with little interest in his social or family side. Meanwhile she finds her vocation and turns into a successful 'almost 30 something' artist, surrounded by forgettable 'smug married' friends procreating happily. Until year 7, when we get the obligatory rom-com ending. This bit let it down for me but there were enough laughs along the way for me to finish the film with a big smile on my face. No standout acting performances tho both Amanda Peet and Ashton Kutcher were well cast and didn't put a foot wrong. If you like rom-coms I would definitely recommend this. Not as original as Hitch or Notting Hill but there is much more to relate to for the rest of us.

Ahhh

A Customer from london, 15th October, 2005

I really liked this, but it is purely a girls movie I think. Ashton may not be the greatest actor but he works in films like this where you don't have to think much and can just plod along with the characters. I found this film like an updated version of 'When Harry met Sally'. The chinese restaurant scene is funny and had me and my mate in stitches in the cinema. Just what girls need when they are having a blue day!

Excellent Film

A Customer from Manchester, 15th December, 2005

This film was better than expected. Expected a cheesy American romantic comedy, but it wasn't cheesy or particularly funny. I liked and related to the characters and the story seemed likely. Although ending was fairly predictable, I feel strongly that some films SHOULD have happy endings and leave you smiling - sometimes relationships DO work out and people ARE happy - also I was looking for a feel-good film and, hurray! I got it. There are soooo many depressing films these days cos film-makers want Oscars...so it's nice to see a good old romance that doesn't make you want to puke. Would definitely recommend for a nice evening in with your partner.

A lot like love

This film is one of my favourite romance films of all time and I think it's either under-rated or unknown by people. I only stumbled across it one day on sky and i've been addicted since. It's quirky and fun, and really tugs on your heart strings. It was just a surprising film considering I'd not heard of it when it was in the cinema. Both Ashton and Amanda make a convincing couple and it's beautiful how the story of friendship and love unfolds. I don't want to spoil the story for anyone, but I will say it'll leave you on the edge of your seat! Rent it now! Trust me, I'm not easily pleased with films so please believe this positive review!

A great romantic comedy with likeable leads Ashton K and the lovely Amanda Peet. These 2 have great screen chemistry and you really care about them as the story progresses over a number of years. A really funny scene sees the 2 chatting with mouthfulls of snacks. See it and enjoy.
