Inspirational TV

balearicbayes from , 29th March, 2007

I really enjoyed reading the book and didn't even realise the tv series existed so was chuffed when i discovered this enthralling documentary!! It was great to see the scenery and different people they met after picturing them in my imagination. It was genuinely touching to see everyone Ewan and Charley met, being so accommodating and pleasant in despite of their own hardships and obvious language barriers. By the end of their trip the guys wariness of strangers and defensiveness had disappeared as they realised the majority of the human race are actually pretty decent and that at the end of the day we all have the essentials in common!!! There was also some heart in mouth moments, like them trying to cross the rivers on the 'road of bones' and that terrifying second you thought the trucks were going to topple over!!! So much for the bloody road, it should have been called the 'pot holed river of bones with the odd rock thrown in'!!! Overall this was an exceptionally inspirational account of the fella's trip, seeing how different people live round the world but also at a basic level how we are all the same!!! I felt like I made that trip with the guys, through the hardship of Siberia and Mongolia to when they reached New York with an entourage of bikers in tow. It was a genuinely touching and rewarding moment.....and thats what makes great tv!!! I have a new found respect for Charley and Ewan who seem like really down to earth blokes who are great friends and were simply living their dream!!!! Can't wait for your next trip guys!!!

A Must see

Jeanne Strebel from London, England, 7th January, 2006

What a fantastic documentary to watch. It inspires you to want and undertake something equally as awesome. I have such respect for Ewan and Charley for their optimistic approach to the whole trip, how they showed that humanity is not that different even in the most remote parts of the world. They just reinforced that it's fear of the unknown that makes people so sceptical and cynical. If only we could all have such spontaneous, open and trusting characters as they did. As well, hats off to Claudio for managing such a phenomenal job as camera man and also the support team for their unfailing personal commitment and, well, support. An incredible voyage to be able to share as an audience member. Sincere thanks to the whole Long Way Around crew for letting us have a window into such a wonderfully epic expedition.

felt like i'd gone round the world.

R&J from bebington, wirral, 2nd April, 2007

although the docu was interesting it became labourious to watch as each episode recapped the previous one, not ideal watching on dvd. probably worth waiting for sky to repeat than buy or rent.

genuinely wonderful

Sheenagh Antonis from Belfast, 11th January, 2006

I got this DVD out because I'd heard such good things about it and I wasn't disappointed. It's gripping. Its strongest point are the two guys. Ewan and Charley are such genuinely likable fellas that you are with them every mile of the way. Generally speaking, Charley is the practical, (blindly) optimistic one so he is the bike hero at the start and the emotional rock, while Ewan is better at reading emotions and looking after others, so he shines when there is a people problem. It's how they work together and learn from each other to deal with the many, many problems that stayed with me long after I had finished watching. (You don't get to know Claudio so well.) Inspirational. Of course, the stuff they do is pretty interesting too - travelling through Khazakstan, Russia and Mongolia is just breathtaking and the people are so open and helpful. I was not so interested in their American leg because the culture is so similar to our own, but disc 2 is even better than disc 1.

Disc 1

AndrewDJ from , 3rd March, 2010

I've not seen the entire series yet, so can't review the whole thing, but Disc 1 was sent to me two days ago, and I've thoroughly enjoyed watching their experiences so far. I'm not a biker or a bike fan, but the adventure of a lifetime that these two set out on is much more important than their mode of transport, and they inject a humour and passion to their roles, you can clearly see they are enjoying themselves, and that rubs off on the viewer. It's fantastic look at the world from a different viewpoint, and I look forward to seeing Disc 2 and 3 as soon as possible :)

Very enjoyable!

tekk11 from from Stratford-upon-Avon, 12th July, 2009

I really loved this! The first few episodes are mainly about the planning phase of the trip. Nomally this can be pretty dull to watch, but it actually turned out to be quite interesting. What did surprise me is what modest lives these 2 hollywood actors live. If you weren't familiar with the actors you would be forgiven for thinking they were just ordinary people like you and i. This is not a 'bear grylss' (well for starters, its not staged.... no offence Bear :-D) type series. This has action, but not too much to make it.... feel fake i guess. But yet it does somehow manage to keep you captivated. If you like travelling and want something 'light' to watch after work - this is perfect. I have just added 'long way down' to my rental list, and i am very much looking forward to watching it Rent it!!

McGregor & Boorman: The Orginal Adventure

A Customer from Norwich, 3rd July, 2009

The great thing about this series was that both my boyfriend and I loved it (a relatively rare thing). We found it exciting, inspiring and funny. The whole sense of adventure and wonder that the team got from their journey was what kept us watching and loving it.
