this is a superb family film, starring Hilary Duff as Kelly Collins, who lives in New York with her divorced mum. she soon learns that her mum is going to remarry, and her life is turned upside down, when she is uprooted from Manhattan, and whisked off to the campus of George Washington Military School in upstate New York. she leaves her best friend and school behind, which does not please her. the move is instigated by her mum's new husband, who is retired General 'Sir' Joe Maxwell played by Gary Cole. Hoping to impress her stepfather, Kelly enlists in the school, where her behaviour and eccentricities, immediately annoy her hard-hearted, 17-year-old squad leader, Jennifer. though Kelly does her best, the pressure upon her by military protocol, is enough to have her contemplating deserting. she becomes very enamoured by upper classman, Brad, but even her crush on him, may not help matters, where Jennifer is concerned as she seems sweet on him also. Kelly has a fondness for art, which again seems to get her into trouble. she also misses her father, and when she learns that her mother is expecting a baby, she wants to be a good sister to the little one. all this adds chaos to Kelly's life, but it is also very comical, how she and her stepfather interact. well worth renting out.
