Another Danish masterpiece

Maria Dumas from London, 9th May, 2005

In Denmark Susanne Bier is best known for her comedy 'The One and Only' but since Brothers were released she has shown the world that she is also an excellent director when it comes to doing drama. Brothers is an honest film about family bonds, love and crisis. The emotions are raw, the dialogue unforgiving and the actors' performances brilliant. Note: Ulrich Jensen from Festen (the Celebration) and a small role in Die Another Day. Nikolaj Lie Kaas from Reconstruction and Connie Nielsen from Gladiator. This is her first film in Danish and outside of Hollywood - and she delivers a fantastic performance. If this is your first Danish film it is an excellent choice and I am sure that you will be looking for more films from this small Scandinavian country with a massive gift for cinema.

Brilliant

Kevan Brighting from Birmingham, 28th October, 2005

This film is stunning albeit bleak. The post traumatic stress suffered by a soldier and the subsequent effect on his family are portrayed in an almost documentary style. The acting (especially from the children) was superlative. Quite the best film I have seen in the past year.

Close Brothers

A Customer from Lymington Hampshire, 23rd October, 2005

Hang in there with the subtitles, this film is worth watching and is very moving. A lot of ex service men will relate to the issues here.

True to life drama

J Challoner from Midlands, England, 22nd October, 2005

True to life insight into the lives of 3 people, made interesting by its Danish origin. You can really understand the torments of the lead characters and well worth a view.

Really good movie

A Customer from Redhill, 7th November, 2009

by this famous Danish director. She always finds storylines that don't seem to have been done before. This film is so well acted and goes under your skin. It really makes you feel how the characters feel. Very good indeed.

Fantastic

MadViking from , 1st September, 2009

I really liked 'After the Wedding' produced by Susanne Biel (Danish) and had great hopes with this one. We were not disappointed and thouroughly enjoyed this masterpiece. IT is certainly a gritty film and you have to accept subtitles. There are several scences of war and I did not quite agree with the way the 'enemy' was depicted. However, the film is not about wars but more about the conflict it creates in families. The various family members are very well played and acted and the close up of faces is really interesting. This is highly recommended.

Incredibly moving

brambleu3a from , 24th July, 2009

This is one of the most moving and tense films I have watched for a very long time. It is shockingly realistic and had me almost holding my breath. The two children were quite outstanding - as were the main characters, none of whom I've seen before. I would thoroughly recommend this film to anyone, even to those who can't seem to read subtitles!
