Absolutely spectacular special effects feature Arnold flying a Harrier jet.

Radio Times

Until the arrival of GoldenEye, this comedy spy thriller from the Terminator team of Arnold Schwarzenegger and director James Cameron was the nearest thing in years to a great James Bond movie. Arnie plays the unshaken, unstirred secret agent, always saving the world in time to get home for dinner with his wife and kids, who are blissfully unaware of his dangerous job. Aside from the truly spectacular action, there's exceptional comedy support from Tom Arnold and a winning performance from Jamie Lee Curtis, who transforms from timid housewife to confident heroine. It may be wildly implausible and a trifle misogynistic, but, on a pure excitement level, Cameron's blockbuster is unbeatable entertainment.

A true popcorn classic

AlexPhillips from , 6th March, 2007

First of all I have to say that I absolutely love this movie. In its nature as a clear rip off of James Bond, the story follows top secret agent Harry Tasker (Arnold Schwarzenegger), in his bid foil a plot by international terrorists to detonate nuclear bombs in the US; while at the same time saving his marriage and relating to his teenage daughter. Much like Indiana Jones being Spielberg’s reaction to never directing a Bond film this appears to be Cameron’s. By reuniting with Schwarzenegger he clearly wanted to rekindle the success of the then two Terminator movies and also play on the lighter side of Schwarzenegger’s character very much on show in the early 1990’s in movies such as Twins and later Junior. The whole movie is clearly played for laughs (in particular Tom Arnold and Bill Paxton) and to be fair the entire cast give a strong and amusing performance with special note to Art Malik who is heavily overlooked by Hollywood and now works on British TV. In short this is a pleasant, light and enjoyable popcorn movie which the whole family could enjoy. Nothing is taken seriously, as it does well to pick apart and parody the spy genre which at the time was getting a little full of its self.

Cameron and Arnie together again

stephen decantelupe from boston, 13th December, 2003

Who would have thought that ANYONE could make arnie look as good as james bond.Well in this case i would have to say better than.
This is some ride and you can just feel that everyone involved in this movie really enjoyed it.
its everything the best bond movies ever had but with better gags, bigger guns and explosive SFX as only Cameron can do them.
Lee Curtis is great and tom arnold has probably his best role to date.
Watch out for a very young bad slayer as Arnie's daughter.
great film fun.

True Lies

mdridley from from Catterick, United Kingdom, 10th December, 2007

The action sequences were always the best thing about True Lies, but now even they seem dated. Arnie is weak, 'phoning it in' as they say, although as usual, his line delivery is comic in a completely unintentional way. Tom Arnold is amusing but too obvious, Jamie Lee Curtis and Bill Paxton each have their moments, but humour clearly isn't Cameron's strong point. This is moronic at times. It's hard to believe someone with the integrity and reliability of James Cameron actually took the time to write the screenplay, co-produce and direct this. Must've seen the inevitable dollar signs in his eyes (it did make a helluva lotta money!), but it is a gigantic blemish on his reputation as an artist and almost inexplicable as a creative endeavour, especially at that time in his career when he could have made anything he desired. Why True Lies? Cameron could make more bunse, blow up bridges and do some cool stuff with a fighter plane. Mindless action entertainment.

An all time clasic film. Great action all the way through, along with a great humerous story line. One of Arnolds best films, next to T2 of course.

Arnie in one of his best roles - its such a cool action film and will always be a classic. The plot, acting, and effects fit together like a glove.

Marvellous Film

Get your beer, pop and crisps ready for this people it's a great family film. Watch out for a superb performance from the leading lady-Jamie Lee Curtis and in particular an absolutely hilarious yet very sensual scene involving her and Arnie in a hotel bedroom.
