In 1974, one man made an appointment with history. His story is gripping, shocking, unbelievable, and true. Samuel J. Bicke is a salesman whose overly idealistic midset is hopelessly at odds with the life that surrounds him. He desperately clings to his estranged wife and children, a job that undermines his basic belief in trust and loyalty, alienated friends and family and a last, floundering attempt at his own independent business. But as his world begins to crumble into disarray, it triggers a crusade for redemption that has shattering consequences...

Assassination of Richard Nixon

ElNut from London, 24th August, 2005

Excellent - highly recommended. Emotive, heartfelt, desperately sad and utterly convincing, this film sees Sean Penn turn in the performance of his career.

This may have been said countless times about an actor who continues to turn in 'worthy' performances (whilst keeping a keen eye on the Oscar nominations), but in this case it really is true. The subject may be gloomy - a lonely man's descent into depression, and ultimately madness - but this drives the film's message through with incredible force. A truly amazing piece of work.

Not to be missed.

American Angst

A Customer from London, 22nd May, 2005

Here's a film which is a study in how a aspiring business man has doubts about the system. Bringing together american morality and violence, it tries to answer how a normal person could loose heart and a sense of purpose. The film may not be the best of its class, but it does show Sean Penn in the roll of aiming to answer deep questions in a strong film not for the faint of heart.

Superb - absolutely superb.

Sean P from Yorkshire, 17th August, 2005

Why anyone has rated this less than 4 is beyond me. This is one hell of a film. Superbly acted, brilliantly written it shows Sean Penn as the actor he can be. If you love thrillers then you'll be on your seat with this one. Every kick in the head this guy gets you feel. Rent it.... NOW!

Showcase Penn

KH08 from North Somerset, 12th August, 2005

This is a very slow burner in the vain of Taxi Driver and the more recent Falling Down.

Penn's character life slowly crumbles before him and you find yourself feeling sorry for him but at the same time shocked by his actions.

The atmosphere truly places you in the America of the 1970s and opens your eyes to the issues faced by everyday Americans - this is no Brady bunch movie.

A type of film that you need to be in the mood for, if you want fast action then look for something else, this burns slower than a roman candle.

Enjoy.

Just Brilliant

A Customer from Ascot, 2nd December, 2009

I was'nt sure what to expect when I rented this, but I am always intigued by movies that are inspired by true events I was glued to the screen throught The acting is brilliant, and Sean Penn is outstanding as the downtrodden anti-hero in the title role A very gripping movie, low on action, high on enjoyment

assassination of Richard Nixon

A Customer from Eastbourne, 31st July, 2009

I thought this was a deeply moving film, a sort of slow burner to an inevitable ending... It portrays all that's wrong with capitalism: haves and have nots, the perceived need to lie to get ahead and motivation by at work through 'incentives' A really good reflection of the society we have ended up with but didn't necessarily vote for...
