Not another murder series!

Cyril Skipworth from Birmingham, ex-Sheffield, 3rd November, 2005

Hartley is a small Northern town not far from Denton, farther from Midsomer, but a million miles from the brutal, multiple and often bizarre murders which occur in those places. Uniformed Inspector Jean Darblay is in charge of the local nick and its small band of uniformed other ranks. During each 45 minute episode you feel you know the regular characters (Jean, her social worker husband and some of their respective colleagues) and it is no great struggle to get to know the few others that appear. Having enjoyed the 16 very varied stories in the four disks of the first series, I look forward to the next series and also, dare I mention, John Nettles in his earlier series - Bergerac.

An arresting series!

GB from Wnchester, 31st October, 2005

A gentler police series than many, certainly an antidote to The Bill which always seems to involve the hardest side of police work. Reminiscent in a way of Dixon of Dock Green I saw this on TV when it was first shown and I enjoyed it again now ... can't wait for series 2 ... Insp Longton was just as good as Insp Darbly!

No great trip back in time!

A Customer from Portsmouth, England, 19th January, 2007

Dissapointing. One of those shows I had fond memories of but has clearly dated & I could not believe just how bad the acting actually was. The title music still sounds great but leave it in the memory bank as one from the past!

Good Old Fashioned Cop Show

A Customer from Norwich England, 2nd August, 2006

Good old fashioned cop show that doesn't have all the sex and violence of the modern cop show.
