There may be the suspicion that MGM was scraping the barrel for this third compilation from its vaults, but it's a gold plated barrel! It also provides an answer for all those who thought the 1946 musical comedy The Harvey Girls lacked a third act number — it's here, as Judy Garland belts out March of the Dogies, in a restored and remixed version. Another highlight is Garland performing Irving Berlin's Mr Monotony, which was cut from 1948's Easter Parade. There's much more, including some sentimental reminiscing from the great names of the era, and a last, sad, sight of the great Gene Kelly. Mickey Rooney doesn't look at his best, either, but Debbie Reynolds and Ann Miller still display all the qualities that made them such shining stars. Beautifully assembled and immaculately edited, this is a treat.
