An acclaimed mini-series adaptation of Daniel Defoe's classic tale of Moll Flanders, one of the most experienced heroines in literary history. From her birth in Newgate prison, through her five marriages and her years as a prostitute, Moll's fiery spirit could never be dimmed. From the Mobil Masterpiece Theatre series.

Halliwell's Film Guide

A very free adaptation of Defoe's novel, substituting a less interesting narrative, in which the bawdiness of the original is replaced by a tedious gentility.

Avoid at all costs!

A Customer from Luton, 25th October, 2007

Although I understand where 'A Customer from Nottinghamshire' is coming from - why name a film Moll Flanders when it has nothing to do with the book? The screenwriter should have just called it something completely fictitious when the plot is as well. Not one piece in this film is the same as the book (from what i can remember of it) and why bother when such an excellent TV adaptation came out the came year. As a film in it's own right I didn't enjoy it either as I was constantly waiting for something recognisable to happen and move the plot along, so i found it - instead of a ripping account of an extraordinary unique character in an age of access, a dreary sentimental woman as seen in so many other books and adaptations. I just don't think Daniel Defoe would be happy.

Great book and equally great film!

A Customer from Nottinghamshire, 2nd May, 2006

To really enjoy this film, first you should be able to take it as a separate entity from the book! The book is absolutely fantastic, but this film is equally good! If you like a well-produced and well-acted classic novel film, you will enjoy this one. It has all the things a good film has and all the things a 'period' movie should have: decent storyline, wealth, love, death, status, greed, poverty, crime, accents and wonderful costumes! I read the book when i was still at school, and now many many years later i still think it is a giant in its own right..but this film stands on its own merits! Go in with an open mind and you will enjoy it..
