A tiny country persuades the Americans and Soviets that they're starting a space program, when they really just want some money for new plumbing.

Radio Times

The combination of a witty Michael Pertwee script, the exuberant direction of Richard Lester and the unique talents of Margaret Rutherford would normally have been enough to guarantee comic gold. But, perhaps because Peter Sellers in a triple role was a hard act to follow, this sequel to The Mouse That Roared never really gets off the ground — a not inconsiderable handicap since its topic is the space race. Once again the tiny duchy of Grand Fenwick takes on the superpowers, this time using a rocket fuelled by the local wine. Fitfully amusing, it wastes a rather splendid supporting cast.

Good British political satire

A Customer from Mansfield, 3rd April, 2006

Tiny, backward, cash-strapped country gets itself a hand-out from the USA by pretending it is for space research, then ends up in a race to the moon with US and USSR. Follow up film to 'The Mouse that Roared' with Peter Sellers, and although he's not in this one, it is a far more rounded and satisfying film. Margaret Rutherford doesn't get much to do but she's her usual brilliant self. Ron Moody hams it up a bit but still makes a terrifically devious prime-minister. Terry-Thomas is exactly how you expect him, and plenty of cameos from other British comedy actors of the period. Oh yes, and there really is a bird called a bobolink.
