Radio Times

Adapted by Roddy Doyle from his own novel, this sassy comedy drama was something of a disappointment after his earlier slice of working-class Dublin life, The Commitments. Sometimes funny, sometimes touching, the film benefits from a few snorting one-liners and some solid ensemble playing, although the cast occasionally gets carried away during the very stagey shouting matches. The main problem, however, is that director Stephen Frears too often allows the comedy to slip into sitcom and the drama to come across as something from a social-conscience soap opera. The Van, the final part of the trilogy, was released in late 1996.

The Snapper - A Classic!

A Customer from London, 25th April, 2005

This movie is one of the funniest ever -even though its over 10 years old - if you're from Dublin or if you can understand a Dublin Accent and enjoy Irish sense of humour & wit then you're in for a treat if you haven't seen this already! Great Craic! .. and then there's 'The Van' the follow up which is even better. :o)

This is one of the funniest irish films i have ever seen, so true to the dublin humor and the way we deal with lifes little problems. Much better than the very popular commitments or the van in my opinion. Its a very touching and very often funny peek into a dublin familys tribulations when the daughter gets pregnant. Colm meany is top notch as always and the cast give a great performance. A must see.

Dublin at it's best

PaoloLondon from from Morden, 12th March, 2008

This is pure Dublin at it's best. You have Irish, within the category you have Dublin, within Dublin you have southside and northside .... this is simply hilarious. Wonderful dialogue ...... for me it's up there as a top ranking film !

great funny film reminds me of the royal family but even funnier. set in ireland the punch lines just keep rolling with this family and the father who some how manages to get it wrong but when the chips are down just goes to show how a family pulls through the tough times and rely on each other. loved this film one to watch if you need a good old laugh.
