Oscar Novak (Perry), an architect who is desperate to receive a ninety million dollar commission from a wealthy Chicago businessman, Charles Newman (McDermott), agrees to help him out with a personal problem. Newman, mistakenly convinced that Oscar is gay, asks him to spy on his mistress, Amy (Campbell), to make sure that she doesn't fool around with her ex-boyfriend Kevin (Cozart), a confirmed stud. When Oscar meets Amy, the two unintentionally embark on a night of one bumbling misadventure after the other. Not surprisingly, he falls for her, but hides the truth for fear of being exposed. When he's selected as man of the year by a gay organization, the situation reaches its boiling point.

Radio Times

This sweet, if somewhat politically incorrect, romantic comedy barely made a dent at the US box office, possibly because audiences could catch all the stars (Friends's Matthew Perry, The Practice's Dylan McDermott and Party of Five's Neve Campbell) on their TVs for free. It's worth seeking out, however, for a nice performance from Perry and a hilarious one from Oliver Platt, who seems to be making a career of being the best and funniest thing in average movies. The plot is simple. Big businessman McDermott thinks Perry is gay, so he asks him to watch over his mistress (Campbell), little realising that Perry is falling for her. Perry has to keep on pretending to both McDermott and Campbell, because he and business partner Platt (who really is gay) stand to lose an important business deal if he doesn't. Cute rather than uproariously funny, this is still proof that Perry could make it on the big screen — if only he had sharper material.

Not a bad film but not brilliant. Quite funny, but also predictable - Matt Perry is good although Neve Campbell was rubbish.

Three to Tango

Predictable. Poor Matthew Perry, playing Chandler with a badhair colour. Please don't advertise this as a 'Gay Film', which is where it was listed. This isn't a gay film, it' a farce and a poor one at that.

A Customer from Nottingham, England, 20th January, 2010

This is such a funny movie! I saw the beginning of this film on tv but missed the ending. It was such a funny and enjoyable movie that I just HAD to rent it and see it through to the end and it was totally worth it. This is an amazing, sweet and hilarious movie.

A Successful Tango

Colin from Essex, 25th July, 2009

You won't be surprised to know that the only dancing in this film is metaphorical. In true Shakespearean style, Perry's character is confused and openly celebrated as gay, whilst, in the meantime, he is secretly falling in love with the woman he has been tasked with secretly spying on because his new boss trusts his 'homosexuality' around his beautiful girlfriend, Campbell. Confused? You won't be! Three to Tango skillfully handles the situation with originality and great humour. The onscreen chemistry between Campbell and Perry is magical and fuels some cringe-making moments as the two characters fall head over heels in love each other, fighting the homosexual act that Perry is forced to adopt. A huge architectural and much coveted contract rests on Perry's ability to follow his boss' instructions and hide his true feelings. As usual, Perry carries his character with fantastic energy. Campbell complements him perfectly. McDermott plays an interesting opposite to our hero, although his voice can sometimes be a little grinding. The casting director did a great job, as did everybody else working on this film. The tango tunes especially add to the fun factor in a Desperate Housewives kind of way. Three to Tango is fun, energetic and definitely one for the fans of the stars.
