Radio Times

In this by-the-numbers monster movie, genetically enhanced killer bats are released upon an unsuspecting Texas town by a mad genius, whose only defence is: “I'm a scientist! That's what we do!” As the bats wreak havoc, a perky zoologist, her cowardly sidekick and the town's sheriff fight desperately to fend off the flying menace. The bats could make effective villains in a better picture, but the lead characters never say or do anything remotely interesting. One might complain that the mad genius disappears too quickly, but he's pretty boring too. When will they learn to genetically enhance formula film-making?

I gave this film 5 stars not because it is a great film but what an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours ! The film is thoroghly enloyable if you don't take it too seriously if you want a serious film this is probably not for you but if you want a bit of fun I recomend this one rent it and enjoy but once again don't take it too seriously !

Good job these suckers aren't real...

Nic from Southampton, England, 5th November, 2004

Wow, I've seen this film knocking around for ages and finally rented it out. The plot is so terrible its funny (A scientist creates genetic mutant bats - why? 'Because thats whats scientists do!!')- but the film works on a kitch, shlock level - if you like your horror films tacky and not too serious then you'll love this. Word of warning; although entertaining, do not watch this film if you know anything about cinematography - it's grossly over lit and this nearly destroyed the film for me. (Actually scrub that, watch it and learn a valuable lesson on the dangers of over-lighting - its so bad it makes the dialogue seem good!!!)

Watch and enjoy with your friends - the conversations that this film will provoke are more entertaining than the film itself. For that I am grateful - money well spent!! Oh, and Lou Diamond Phillips - what a legend.

Bats

Griz from Cardiff, 2nd June, 2005

Not awful, but not as good as some other Lou Diamond Phillips films (which says more about this than anything else he has done!).

Cheesy and stupid, but watchable.
