Radio Times

In this sentimental drama, Sandra Bullock plays the Manhattan wild child forced into rehab after hijacking a limo at her sister's wedding and driving it into a house. Refusing to admit she has a drink problem, Sandy slowly comes to terms with her alcoholism with help from tough-but-fair guidance counsellor Steve Buscemi and the usual round of kooky Hollywood misfits. From Viggo Mortensen's womanising sports star to Dominic West's irresponsible English drunkard, there's not a single sympathetic male character. Directed by Betty Ford… sorry, Thomas, this is the kind of touchy-feely hogwash that's more likely to drive people to drink than keep them off it. Twenty-eight days? More like a life sentence.

Pretty good comedy for a serious subject

crockery from from Belfast, 8th August, 2008

Sandra Bullock does a pretty good job of playing Gwen the drunken party girl who gets herself into trouble. She is not gung ho for a treatment center, but her other option is jail. Actually, I was not sure how she avoided jail at all, and 28 days seemed too short a time for all the hilarity, action and breakthroughs in this film, but other than these things, I was really impressed with Bullock and the ensemble acting - the balance of comedy and drama. The one actor I thought over-acted was in the character of Gwen's boyfriend. He was too much, and it was a relief to see him off the screen. Viggo Mortensen is endearing as the other guy for Gwen. I would like to have seen more of them together. I think people will love the soap opera gags and the send-up of drug/alcohol treatment centers, but will also get the serious nature of the interactions in the 'chemistry' among all the characters in treatment in the film.

28 days to get a life

Elizabeth from West Midlands, 23rd January, 2007

This film for me is a feel good film as I like to say, shows you that you can achieve something if you want it hard enough. If ive had a bad day or just feeling down in the dumps this movie always cheers me up. Sandra Bullock stars as Gwen Cummings an alcoholic who just wants to live life with out thinking of the consequences in-between. Bullock who I think is one of the best female actors plays a superb role. The acting in this movie couldn't have been better, with an excellent script all the actors/characters work well together. I would have loved to have seen a sequel to 28 days. As I think it would be good to know what the characters did after and how they are living their lives now. This movie is fun filled, but also has a slightly serious tone to it. Personally I think this movie sends a message that we don't need to get drunk to have a good time and enjoy ourselves, and if we try, we can achieve anything we want. Gwen Cummings (Sandra Bullock) is an out-going, drinking party lass, and with her boyfriend Jasper (Dominic West), they think that to have fun they must be the life and soul of the party. So this must mean they have to get totally drunk each and every time there out! Its Gwen's sisters Lily's (Elizabeth Perkins) wedding, and Gwen was set to be her bridesmaid, only drinking heavily the night before she wakes up late. Almost missing her sister's wedding, along with Jasper, she decides that they're going to liven the wedding up with a speech, drinks and dancing. So as Gwen and Jasper are dancing away, bumping into everyone making fools of themselves, Gwen slips and falls, yes you guessed it, straight into her sister's wedding cake. Gwen being Gwen says don't worry I'll fix it, as she jump's into the drivers limo and goes hunting for a wedding cake, only being so drunk she crashes into a house. The courts sentence her to 28 days in rehabilitation or a jail sentence, Gwen picked the rehab thinking it was going to be easy. She was so wrong, she hated it, no drinking or drugs this was a living hell! She now has to fight to stay sober, take part in daily routines which is no easy journey for poor Gwen Now that Gwen has been there a few days, she realise that she was killing herself, and she wasn't the life and soul of the party, she was the joke of the party. She now cant wait to turn her life round. But does she have the will power?

Only 28 Days!!

Not one of Sandra's best films. It seemed to be very slow and a bit meandering. Best thing was that it had a happy ending and the little playlet wes very amusing.

Thought this film was really good, the characters became close to one another and i got more fond of them as the film went on the acting was good, there was a point to this film lots of morals with a pick me up factor near the end, though you do have to shed some tears to get there. Thought the ending was too quick i didn't want the credits to roll when they did, I would have liked to have seen what she did in her happier life. There were definitely some comical moments and lines though at times the film felt a little slow but i still wanted to see what would happen so it did keep my attention. A good drama that does make you abit depressed especially if you have been through a similar situation and can relate to the characters, but as the film goes on it does start to make you feel good when she gets her life back on track.

great film played by a great actress

Nicola from uk, 24th March, 2009

I actually really liked this film,i didn't think it was going to be that good but it was. Sandra Bullock pays an alcoholic who ends up in rehab, the film follows her through her 28days detox and shows you how her and her lives changes as a result. Got some funny bits but at the same time is quite a serious film

just what you'd expect

A Customer from Kinlochleven, 28th January, 2009

Thought this was an OK film - nothing heavy or even too realistic (about accepting and recovering from an addiction) but easy and enteraining enough if you like Sandra Bullock. The German addict is hilarious.
