A slacker named Lewis (Ben Mendelsohn) takes a job as dramatic director at an asylum in this typically broad Australian comedy. One of the inmates is obsessed with staging the Mozart opera Cosi Fan Tutte, which Lewis directs against all the odds and the wishes of the asylum's administrators. Mark Joffe's film is quite funny most of the way through, but it veers into cheap sentimentality towards the end, especially when one patient breaks into an a cappella rendition of Stand By Me.
