In this dazzling sequel to the 1995 blockbuster, Andy heads off to summer camp, leaving the toys behind to fend for themselves. In much the same way Buzz discovered he is a mass-produced product in the first installment, Woody discovers that he is a valuable collectible spawned by a popular 1950s kiddie-puppet TV show, "Woody's Roundup Gang," when he is kidnapped by an evil toy collector, Al McWhiggin. Through Al, who plans to sell him to a Japanese toy museum, Woody is reunited with the toy versions of his TV cohorts--plucky cowgirl Jessie (Cusack), prospector Stinky Pete (Grammer), and trusty horse Bullseye. Woody must choose between seeing Andy grow up and forsake him and living a sterile but eternal life behind glass being admired--but not played with. Meanwhile, the rest of the original toy troupe undergoes a thrilling crosstown adventure to locate their kidnapped friend and restore him his rightful owner. Extremely entertaining, surprisingly touching, endlessly thrilling eye candy for anyone of any age. Golden Globe Winner: Best Motion Picture--Musical or Comedy. Includes outtakes and bonus short, "Luxo Jr.," plus a sneak preview of Disney/Pixar's MONSTERS INC.

Halliwell's Film Guide

Witty, brilliantly realised comedy of celebrity and obsolescence; it shows an advance in technique over the original, but its narrative, lacking the darker impulses of the first film, is not as resonant.

Toys don’t last forever

JediSi from , 25th August, 2007

Disney/Pixar's continuation to 'Toy Story' from 1995 establishes several amusing additional characters and has vibrant celebrity voice-overs and energy to spare, although the story line on this occasion (taking some of the toys out of the bedroom and into the big wide world) doesn't maintain a great deal of fascination. Woody is purloined at a yard sale by a toy collector and ascertains he's a valuable one-off in the antique market; Buzz, Slinky Dog, Rex and Mr. Potato Head come to the rescue. Greatest moment is the amusing sci-fi beginning (which manages to be sardonic and electrifying), and Woody's preamble to his character's personal history is delightfully offered. The big rescue, while vivacious for the youthful audience, is prolonged and bursting of frenzied skirmish; there's so much pretentiousness (and shrieking from the actors) that the intricate niceties and warm melancholy which earmarked the foremost 'Toy Story' unhurriedly slithers away. Moderately enjoyable, but fails to come within reach of the originals prominence. It has more style, superior animatronics, an acceptable storyline, but none of the spirit the first instalment contained. I do think that this one used the wake of the original to get the success it has. It’s good, but not THAT good Buzz Lightyear: You killed my father. Emperor Zurg: No Buzz, I am your father. Buzz Lightyear: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Fun

A.S from Wales, 10th February, 2005

A film that works on a few levels. Our children loved it, the computer animation is unbelievable, the story and humour great. It breaks a rule, as Toy Story 2 is better than the orginal Toy Story (1)

amazing

A Customer from Surrey, 15th September, 2003

There is nothing wrong with this film in any way. Once you've recovered from the jaw-dropping computer animation, there's still a fantastic story, fantastic characters, crowd-pleasing slapstick and witty one-liners, excitement, pathos... this film just oozes charm and invention with every scene. People bemoaning the progressive worsening of traditionally animated Disney films should love this, and most of the other cgi films, not to mention some of the Japanese manga like the Studio Ghibli releases. Not just for kids, though; there's more than enough on offer to please and delight adult viewers. Perfect film-making.

Toy Story 2 - Thought it would be poo!

A Customer from Scotland, 31st May, 2005

I love this new genre of animated children's movies which also have witty comedy aimed at the adult audience too. Outwith this genre follow ups aloways seem to dissapoint, but not so with movies such as Shrek 2 and Antz where the follow up is a more devloped and polished presentation with even more wit and more amusing storylines. I had forgotton how good this movie was with several laugh out loud moments and others which were genuinely touching. This is a great choice if you are a big kid or have kids and would like to ENJOY a movie with them, rather than sitting through an hour of middle of the road dumming down kiddie entertainment.

Toy story 2

Nightwatch from , 1st August, 2009

In my opinion it was a good sequal to toy story 1. featured orignial characters (Such as woody, Buzz, Slinky and Mr.potatoe head) + more new ones. As a childrens/family film i would highly recommend it. Or to keep the kids mezmorised whislt you do other things it is helpful in that aspect to. However i found myself loving this film. Big kid at heart. Cant wait for Toy story 3 in 2010.
