This superb remake is one of the best examples of Hollywood expertise at work: art direction, set construction, costumes, camera, lighting and above all direction brilliantly support an irresistible story and bravura acting.

Wrong version

A Customer from Southampton, 8th January, 2007

Be careful ordering the Laughton Hunchback. I did and got sent the 20's silent version with Lon Chaney instead. Very impressive sets but rather trying over two hours despite some of the funniest costumes and make-up I've ever seen - imagine Peter Beardsley with a tight black perm.

Wrong film. Beware!!!!

A Customer from Portsmouth, 24th January, 2007

Be careful of ordering this one at the moment. I too have been sent the 1923 silent film four times now and don't think that the 1939 film is in stock at the moment.Customer services are arranging to inspect the discs!

Like all of the other reviewers I thought I was ordering the Charles Laughton version of this film but instead received an earlier silent version.

Yes, I too was sent the 20's silent version with Lon Chaney despite several complaints from previous customers who also suffered in the same way. i have also complained to Tesco but it looks like our words are falling on deaf ears! if you order this dvd expect to be sent the wrong title :(
