A group of animal rights protesters bite off more than they can chew when they set out to free a bunch of potential pets from a laboratory. Unfortunately their deed is interrupted by a noisy alarm being triggered, leading to them evacuating the premises before the police arrive. Unfortunately one of the activists is left in the laboratory, and goes missing. But when an e-mail is received by one of their number, it contains some bizarre, loosely-worded information that the group are compelled to follow up on. Involving a trip to an empty laboratory, the sights that greets them are more horrific than they ever imagined possible.

this is what was the director was thinking....

'...Gosh, 28 Days Later was a successful movie. I wonder if I can make a film using a special new film stock or something? Hey, and Dog Soldiers was great too... yeah, I know, I'll make a horror movie! Altered States was trippy and intelligent, I can use some of those ideas... combined with some kind of matrix-inspired crap 'cause that did really good box office. Hmmm... wonder if the set they used in The Hole is available on the cheap? Maybe I should hire somebody well known, what about that bird from the Spice Girls or something! Better have a hunky guy in there with his top off in a scene too. He'd better be able to do an American accent so I can sell the film to the US market. Wow, I can't go wrong here, Horror films always make money and I'll leave it open for a sequel too 'cause those fans will put up with anything!!' WRONG. Your film is total pants. Please stop it right now and get a proper job.

Poor Effort

Dirk from telfrod, 27th January, 2005

I wouldn't recommend this effort, it's barely watchable.

Poor acting combined with a shoddy script and terrible direction makes this one a bit of a stinker.

It reminded me a little of a movie called 'the hole' which although not great, is certainly better than this.

Disappointing.

Dont Bother

rubyredslippers from , 5th November, 2009

I thought at the beginning it was going to be a resonably good movie due to the fact Tom Hardy was starring in it .The beginning was initially good then without putting any spoilers in - it went all silly. The plot was too far fetched and stupid . I would not recommend to rent .

Lethal Weapon

A Customer from Watford, 23rd September, 2009

So pleased that all those animals escaped but unfortunately one human got left behind. Ok so it was a low budget British film but we cannot expect Steven Speilberg fireworks display. Had a feeling it was the abdoned friend taking out his anger and pent up revenge on mates. Good to see Tom Hardy in this film (an actor who has not yet been fully recognised by the British Public). Tom was the good guy as well as the Hero.

It Surpised Me.

filmsaremypassion from , 11th September, 2009

I rented this out and gave it a chance as the reviews say it was awful low budget British horror. Well, I really enjoyed it and have got a copy on the way. Basic plot is a group of animal protesters go to a place where their abounded friend is waiting only to fighting for surrival as a unknown being is picking them off one by one. I can't believe how much I enjoyed this film, it gripped me from the begining to the end and shock horror, it didn't end stupidly at all! It has a cast of unknown and known people like Mel B from Spice Girls, this was her second film role if you count Spice World but she was quite good and wasn't annoying at all. Stephen Lord from Eastenders fame was also good along with Tom Hardy who was the hero and looked gorgeous at the same time. I highly recommend this film if you love werid horror movies or just something different that you would normally watch.

Far better than most of you said!

TheBigE from , 19th February, 2009

As usual, as soon as most people see a film they're not so keen on, they rip it apart! LD50 doesn't deserve that. Here is the honest review minus a knee jerk reaction: Acting - Mostly good. Scary Spice is no Streep but she doesn't embarrass herself. Production values - Good. Story - A bit silly at times but fine if you suspend your disbelief - which is what horror/fantasy tends to require a lot of the time! In short, a reasonable budget, reasonably acted, well shot sci-fi/horror from the UK that I am not embarrassed for people from other film-making countries to see. It's pretty good, actually - and far better than most of you said!
