James Bond is pitted against Blofeld again, this time infiltrating his installation high in the Swiss Alps. Austalian-born George Lazenby amply fills Connery's shoes here, briefly, as he finds himself kilted and surrounded by a gorgeous and sex-starved gaggle of women on retreat. Diana Rigg plays James Bond's love interest who becomes his only wife in the history of the series. Bond (and Connery) returns in DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER. |
This is the James Bond everyone forgets, mainly because it stars the Australian George Lazenby, who went from chocolate commercial to big-screen disaster. Wittily written (by Richard Maibaum and Simon Raven) and pacily directed (by Peter Hunt), it has excitement galore. Yet the chemistry between Diana Rigg and Lazenby is nonexistent — reportedly, Rigg chewed garlic on set to ensure no sparks flew. Louis Armstrong sings We Have All the Time in the World, however, which is some compensation.
