This, the first ever Merseyside final, was a great FA Cup occasion. Everton took the lead through Gary Lineker after 27 minutes, but a second-half fight-back by Liverpool through goals by Rush (2) and Johnston clinched the cup and the double for the 'Mighty Reds'.

One of the best cup finals in the 80's

This game had it all. Moustaches - bad hair cuts, lawerenson and hansen in defence for Liverpool. Reid, Linekar etc for Everton. The first merseyside derby final was won by the red side of liverpool, but it was not as clear cut as the result suggested. Everton scored in the first half and threated to score several times. Liverpool finally woke up in the second half, with two goals from goal machine Rush and one from Craig Johnston. It ended a great season for the reds, the double of 86.
