A laid-back high school coach (Mark Harmon) reluctantly forfeits a Hawaiian vacation to teach remedial English to a class of likable misfits. This goofy comedy tells the sweetly inspiring story of the group of high school slackers who seem destined to fail until they land in the coach's class. As both students and teacher accept the fact that they must complete the course, all learn a great deal about themselves, their priorities, and friendship.

80's Comedy was a beach

Okay bad pun to start so I am on the back foot already... I am going to try and make this horrible film sound like a worthwhile hour and a half of your life so give me a chance. High level review: Bad teacher teaches bad students and they learn about themselves and manage to have a bit of fun along the way. (if I hadn't seen it I think this would encourage me!) Mark Harmon a man with incredible good looks but a terrible sense in film roles joins the talented but terribly poorly cast Kirstie Alley in a film which is headed for doom from day one. Chainsaw and Dave are a couple of misfits in a class of weirdos who have been made to attend Summer School to improve their grades. The classmates are united in hating Summer School and this is a feeling they share with Mr Shoop their Teacher. Shoop has been coerced into teaching Summer School by the Principal of the school and hates the idea. There are some genuinely funny bits in this film but they are too far apart. Take for instance the bargain that Mr Shoop makes with Chainsaw. He can borrow Shoops car for his driving test but returns with only the bumper. Hiding Shoops keys, (alright its funnier that it sounds) The film lacks a heart and therefore, drifts between comedy, rom com, a film with a message, animal house, etc.. If your number of titles is running low and you like 80's comedy stick it in your list you might find it humourous, if however, you want a deeply thought provoking film it is probably best you pick the Breakfast Club.
