Ever Ready Eddie!!

Kristian from Devon, 13th October, 2004

Let me be honest, I'm a huge fan of Eddie Izzard but will try to be as unbiased as I can. This recording from the Albery Theatre in London, March 1994 shows he had not yet reached his peak as it was in Definite Article and Glorious, even so, he does still make you cry with laughter.

Turning the most basic things in life into brilliant pieces of comedy such as purring cats, dogs fetching sticks, even the psychology of shopping, he goes on to talk about life as a transvestite and Star Trek, also turning them into superlative comedic masterpieces.

This performance displays the gifted vivid imagery and stream of consciousness that is his trademark, part scripted, part improvised, the audience can't fail to appreciate it. More than this though, it gives you a glimpse of the more potent material that lay ahead.

Much better than his recent stuff; Sexie, Circle, even Dress to Kill which in parts felt more like a history lecture than a comedy show, this is truly top class comedy from the genious that is Eddie Izzard. If you're wondering what the fuss is all about watch this one, you won't be disappointed.

Not much else on the dvd in way of extras though which is a shame.

The title says it all

cosmiccow from Cardiff, 25th October, 2004

Unrepeatable it certainly was, without a shadow of doubt the finest standup show Eddie's ever recorded.

The quick wit and his trademark random wandering around a subject are all here but done to the highest standard. Many fans will recognise material used in later shows, but I'd be surprised if anyone thought he'd ever done it better.

This show was the reason I became a fan and after a long wait I've finally remembered exactly why! Watch and enjoy.

Funny, but not as engaging as some of his other shows

David Gray from Clackmannanshire, Scotland, 2nd September, 2005

Yes, Eddie is a funny guy. Yes, he is funny here. But I can't help but feel that some of his other efforts such as Dressed To Kill and Definite Article have much more ZING to them. That's not to say he doesn't ZING here, but it all seems rather hit or miss with the show, which is a shame because usually he's firing on all cylinders. The Eddie we know best does come out eventually, with a brilliant discussion about Star Trek and everything that goes with it. The only problem with his Trek talk is that just as you're really starting to get into the swing of classic Eddie, the show is over. For any Eddie fan, this is a must see, as always. But for the casual viewer looking to get into Izzards work, start elsewhere.

eddie is nearly always perfect

rabbit1969 from from Cambridge, England, 4th January, 2010

but you can spoll him by watching too much. He is not as slick as usual here, not as relaxed and naturally funny. He is always witty and original, but can over do the pauses and repetition and wandering off the point

Eddie Izzard Unrepeatable

A Customer from Bury St. Edmunds, 20th July, 2009

I love Eddie Izzard as a stand up comedian. I saw Unrepeatable years ago - in fact it was my first introduction of his work. I thought it was hilarious then and I thought it was hilarious this time round. As with Lee Evans he can make the things of everyday life so funny and the viewer can always relate. Real laugh out loud stuff. I am going to buy this on DVD because I know that I want to watch it again and will do for many years to come. Eddie Rocks!

If your after some 90's comedy nostalgia then this is the show for you. Eddie Izzard takes you into a very inventive comedy world. If your looking for some Izzard stand-up this is a great place to start.

I hadn't realised it was such an old concert, but he's still a funny man, maybe not as zany as he is now but I did LOL.
