Henry Roth (Adam Sandler) works at a Hawaiian Sea World park as a marine biologist. He enjoys the company of women and spends his time picking up tourists. One of the tourists he befriends is Lucy (Drew Barrymore) and unlike the rest of his flings, who only survive the afternoon, Henry is keen to meet up with her the next day. Unfortunately when the next day arrives, Lucy can't remember ever meeting Henry and he soon discovers that, following an accident, she suffers from short term memory loss. Every day he has to woo her again and again and trust that she falls in love with him every time.

Radio Times

Only the grumpiest viewer could fail to be charmed by this sweet comedy. Featuring one of Adam Sandler's least goofy performances, it's a simple and undemanding story, with genuine warmth beneath the slapstick. In a plot reminiscent of Groundhog Day, Drew Barrymore plays a car-crash survivor whose short term memory loss means she wakes up every morning with no knowledge of the day before. For laid-back, would-be suitor Sandler this means repeating their first date over and over again, an amusing concept laced with poignancy. While both leads are likeable, benefiting from an easy chemistry established in The Wedding Singer, it's Anger Management director Peter Segal's subtle balance of humour and heart that really lifts the film.

superb.........

williamsgwynfa from , 29th January, 2007

this is a very funny film, and the chemistry between adam sandler and drew barrymore is wonderful. my daughters think that this film is the best that they have seen. 50 first dates is ideal for a girls night in for my daughter and her friends with cola, popcorn and a pizza delivery.

A bit of a surprise

A Customer from SW London, England, 30th September, 2004

Not quite what we expected but proved to be quite a pleasant viewing. Just one of those films that doesn't stretch you but leaves you with a smile on your face thinking that that was a nice way to spend 90 minutes.

This was a poor film with a weak plot. Don't waste your time watching it. It is predictable and very AMERICAN.

Wonderful moments

Ajaymay from , 21st July, 2004

Before I start I should probably point out that I'm an Adam Sandler fan. Happy Gilmore still rates as one of my favourite comedies ever, the Waterboy is pure laugh out loud Slapstick and The Wedding Singer was a fantastic romantic comedy. However I can also admit that Mr. Deeds, Billy Madison etc are films that are going through the motions whilst Little Nicky was truly awful. The film isn't as funny as The Wedding Singer, but does have a few laugh out loud scenes, its more a romantic comedy with a stress on the romance, with some wonderful moments where you realise exactly how much Sanlders character is doing to win over the girl of his dreams, every day.

really quite good...

A Customer from London, 8th March, 2010

I was dreading watching this film with my girlfriend but I have to say it has enough slapstick for the boys to get the chuckles... It's a little bit blue so get cuddled up on your sofa under your duvet and give this film a whirl with your significant other...

Enjoyable Film

PianoPhil from , 12th February, 2010

I've personally never been a great fan of Adam Sandler and do not like his sense of humour, but I must admit that I enjoyed '50 First Dates'. For me he left alone his more comical side and actually produced a film that is easy to watch and enjoyable. I think Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore worked well together and there was a good supporting cast. Over the years I have seen this film a couple times and it has not yet bored me.

weak, teenage sleepover movie

A Customer from Abingdon, 20th October, 2009

I'm a big fan of the 'chick flick' but I have to say this left me cold! 50 First Dates was just too pedestrian, and predictable and I had to bribe my friend to watch the whole film... Would be a good 'sleepover' movie for 13 year olds, but don't waste your weekend if you have been through puberty.

Amazing!!

Barnzey901 from , 16th August, 2009

This film is truly amazing! Its storyline is so interesting and the comedy really shines through, it doesn't get at all repetitive and has some sad moments that make the story even better! I would call it more a romantic comedy, some moments made me laugh out loud and my eyes water, and some moments left me wanting to cry. I recommend this film to everyone that likes a good comedy!
