The very first series of ONE FOOT... starring Richard Wilson as Victor Meldrew, an everyman forced into early retirement. He's thrust into hanging around the house, tormenting his wife Margaret (Annette Crosbie) just by existing. Taking odd jobs that somehow don't work out, or courting coincidental mayhem around him. David Renwick's script is wonderfully dark and surreal, full of witty ennui and true-to-life observations--that rare winning formula of laughs and pathos where anything and everything conspires against poor old Victor. Caught up in his constant bad luck is Margaret's odd friend Mrs Warboys and odd neighbour Mr Swainey (and his invisible mother).
All the episodes from the first series: ALIVE AND BURIED, THE BIG SLEEP, THE VALLEY OF FEAR, I'LL RETIRE TO BEDLAM, THE ETERNAL QUADRANGLE, THE RETURN OF THE SPECKLED BAND.

The great king of moaning

KiK from Dundee, Scotland, 28th September, 2004

You may think you've had plenty of things go wrong in your life, but that's nothing compared to the kind of things that happen to Victor Meldrew. (Richard Wilson)

We should be ashamed at all the laughs we get out of someone elses misfortune, but it's the way it's presented in this comedy treat that makes us forget all about that.

Recently appearing in the top 10 British Comedy awards, this is undeniably one of the greatest comedies around, watch and enjoy!

we loved watching One Foot In The Grave with Victor and Margaret. The episodes are: Alive and Buried - At the age of 60, Victor Meldrew is retired from his job as a security guard to be replaced by a box and a recorded message. As he contemplates his future, he gets a visit from Nick Swainey's charity for the elderly and decides to go for a job interview. The Big Sleep - Victor's cousin Geoffrey, who had also just taken early retirement at the age of 60, dies. The Meldrews attend his atheist funeral and receive a visit from what Victor calls 'the Jehovah's Witness police'. As fog descends on suburbia, Victor wakes up thinking he's dead. The Valley of Fear - While photographing a sunset, Victor is mugged and graffiti is sprayed on the Meldrews' house. These events lead to Victor heading a Neighbourhood Watch meeting. Meanwhile, there's a strange smell by the sideboard, a problem with the central heating, an old woman in the loft and a cat in the freezer. I'll Retire to Bedlam - Victor is trapped in his shed for three hours thanks to a swarm of belligerent bees, stuck in the optician's for a day with his eyes shut, then spends another day babysitting some unpleasant children. The Eternal Quadrangle - Margaret is pleased when Victor takes up painting, but regrets her encouragement when she discovers that he has been painting a nude model, Doreen, and giving her a lift home afterwards. The Return of the Speckled Band - Victor and Margaret are preparing for a holiday in Athens. However, they must first cope with Victor's fear of flying, Mrs Warboys' food poisoning, having their electricity meter read, and an escaped snake. Well worth watching !

"I don't believe it!"

KHRANDRASS from from Cheadle, 17th March, 2009

'I've been replaced by a box.....It's standard proceedure apparently for a man my age. The next stage is to stick you inside one.' Forced into taking early retirement.Victor Meldrew optimistically tries to adjust to years of leisure with his wife Margaret. If only events- coincidences, misunderstandings, bureaucatic inefficiencies and sheer bad luck- didn't conspire against him. Ep 1 Alive and burried At least victor will be free to sort out the car, do the shopping, compile the observer's book of crap on your lawn.... Ep 2 The big sleep Noisy neighbours, an outbreak of Jehovah's witnesses in the area.... Victor needs to do something positive.Like exercise classes for the elderly? Ep 3 The valley of fear Victor calls a residents meeting after an encounter with soccer hooligans. He arms himself with a starting pistol and Mrs Warboys follows suit- with a hand grenade. Ep 4 I'll retire to bedlam Victor's been trapped in his garden shed by 'killer' bees, stuck in the optician's all day with his eyes shut.... now for the greatest horror; baby-sitting Iris's children. Ep 5 The eternal quadrangle Margaret's suspicions that victor is having an affair with the nude model from his art class seem to be confirmed when she finds an 'empty packet' in his coat pocket. Ep 6 The return of the speckled band Victor's already dreading the holiday flight to Athens, but first he must deal with Mrs Warboys' food posioning, the elecric meter reading debacle ...and an escaped snake. Six quality funny episodes which will make you laugh loads a really fantastic series!
