Erin Castleton is furious with her mother after she places an advert for her in the lonely hearts column...

Rating of 4 stars out of 5
Radio Times

Terrific romantic comedy, all the more laudable for being the first feature from up-and-coming indie director Brad Anderson. Hope Davis plays Erin, a Boston night-shift nurse who swears off men after she's dumped by her boyfriend. Her mother, though, has other ideas and places a personal ad on her daughter's behalf. The film then chronicles Erin's reluctant return to the meet market. Philip Seymour Hoffman (Happiness, Magnolia) is the best-known face among the supporting cast.

One of the Most Romantic Films

A Customer from London, UK, 17th May, 2005

Brad Anderson (The Machinist) writes and directs this truly romantic movie. With little money and a big heart, Next Stop Wonderland offers real performance from an ensemble cast that includes Hope Davis (Daytrippers, About Schmidt, American Splendor)and Philip Seymour Hoffman (Happiness, Love Liza, Boogie Nights). It's a simple love story, beautifully told and heart warming in a not too cheesy way.

ITS NOT A COMEDY

skeadugenga from , 3rd July, 2008

This is a romantic drama, not a romantic comedy and as such was something of a disappointment. True there are a few gentle laughs, but the heroine is a drag for most of the time, moping around reading her dead father's poetry, trying to get over her awful ex-boyfriend and rowing with her desperate mother who is still trying to get over the loss of her husband. Our hero is a pleasant enough ordinary chap, but some of the plot to do with fish was just the other side of believable. I can only hope that his previous experience with wet fish will prepare him for life with this girl. If you were hoping for something funny, light and cheering, this isn't it.
