Presenting his third feature after last year's acclaimed Wintersleepers, Tom Tykwer cranks up the volume, stiffens the pace, and jettisons us on one of this year's most exhilarating cinematic adventures. A breathtaking race against the clock, Run Lola Run straps Tykwers' playfully hip sensibilities to a fun-filled mix of romance, thrills, and action as his tireless heroine pounds the pavement and racks her brain to save her lover from danger. Manni and Lola are twenty-something Berliners, way past cool and desperately in love. When Manni, a local criminal's errand boy, loses twenty thousand Marks, he has twenty minutes to find the money or face retaliation. Not the brightest bulb, Manni turns to the quick-witted, resourceful Lola to devise a plan to save his hide. And so she does, and off she sprints, running for Manni's life, for her love, and to find money somewhere, somehow. Dangling three "what if" variations on Lola's mission to save her mate, Run Lola Run propels us toward each outcome with a delicious peppering of surprises, quirks, and twists. A sure-fire hit with audiences, Run Lola Run brings to the screen two actors of immeasurable charisma: Franka Potente as the heroic, flame-haired Lola, and Moritz Bleibtreu as her doltish but devoted lover. Scoring his delirious staccato mix of animation, still photographs, and live action to a pounding techno beat, Tykwer reveals himself a virtuoso of the medium and, at the same time, a passionate believer in destiny and the transcendent power of love.

Radio Times

In this breathtaking crime drama, director Tom Tykwer keeps his audience on a knife edge as teenager Lola (Franka Potente) tries to raise the money that will save her boyfriend Manni (Moritz Bleibtreu) from a homicidal gangster. Tykwer pushes cinema to superhuman limits, presenting three scenarios and conclusions, and utilising a dazzling array of cinematic devices — jump cuts and replays, colour turning to monochrome, action sped to a blur — as Lola takes part in a desperate race against time. This is an awesome achievement from one of Germany's most innovative film-makers.

Halliwell's Film Guide

Exhilarating, speedy thriller which provides three alternative versions of events, depending on tiny incidents which precipitate different consequences; it's a witty demonstration of the vagaries of cause and effect and the unpredictability of life.

READ ME ONLY!!!!

Just ignore the bad reviews. If you didn't enjoy this film then you simply didn't get it, and it's not that hard to get. It doesn't matter it's that it's German or if some people found her running everywhere pointless (some reviews reccomended taking the bus. If you have a 20 minute time limit on a life or death situation who really would spend it waiting for the number 36 bus????) this basically is a very clever and enjoyable film. The director should be proud and I strongly recomend this picture. Most films aren't prepared to take risks anymore, but in saying that not all risks come off as well as Lola.

Unique.

A Customer from England, 30th March, 2004

Run Lola Run is based on a simple idea - three repetitions of the same story with a different outcome each time. Lola's boyfriend has been robbed of the money he owes a big time criminal, and now Lola has to run to obtain a large sum of money and deliver it to her boyfriend before he commits an armed robbery to obtain the money. Sounds miserable? Don't believe it - it's a colourful, stylish film.

If anyone shares my trepidation about what might be found in a 15-rated film, don't worry - I'm sure it would have been a PG but for the swearing.

20 minutes of mayhem

McClennan from , 31st January, 2005

I liked this a lot. Franke Potente in the lead role and I can see why she got a couple of Hollywood films after this but the real star of the show is the direction which is superb. Based on a twenty minute period in the main characters' lives it's stretched out for considerably longer with repetitive shots done differently almost each time. There are small twists and turns that take you in a direction you weren't expecting as well as ones that are ludicrous, but they work. The film is played with a real edge of the seat feel to it and doesn't stray away from the central love story too much. The music wasn't great but it played the film perfectly and I think anyone who's enjoyed the likes of Trainspotting or Human Traffic would enjoy this film.

Lost in translation...

A Customer from Islington, 14th March, 2010

The original is a great movie. But I was really disappointed watching the dubbed version. Original language with subtitles would have been better. Some of the translations miss the point enirely...

didn't quit add up

A Customer from oxfordshire, 13th March, 2010

Different versions of the same event all in one film. Sounds like my kind of film, but it didn't seem to add up. Unless I'm mistaken, the time differences that the plot hangs on were slighly askew. I'm finding it hard to explain, but it left me feeling confused and a little cheated. Anyway, don't let me put you off, it's a good, but not great film. Definitely worth watching.

Its not that it fails to suspend your disbelief, its just that I can't believe its so monotonous and uninteresting.

No good!

A Customer from Reading, 26th January, 2010

This film was badly dubbed with voices that sounded squeaky and cartoon like. I would have much rather read subtitles. The film also frequently gets interrupted by cartoon sequences that cheapen the film and the flashforwards of the lives of the passers by have no basis. I like the story and i like the 3 different scenarios, but the film is terribly let down by the interruptions and the worst dubbing i have ever seen!
