A hairdresser is sent to the land of Slovetzia to tutor three children. Thinking that she's been hired as a beautician she has no idea that her boss the widowed autocrat Boris Pochenko thinks she's a science teacher...

Radio Times

Fran Drescher made her name as the “hostess with the mostest” in This Is Spinal Tap, but these days she's probably better know as the star of the sitcom The Nanny (big in the US though not here). This was intended as the vehicle to kickstart her career on the big screen, but unfortunately it was consigned to the straight-to-video bin here. It's actually not too bad, with Drescher playing the very “Noo Yawk” beautician who mistakenly winds up as governess to the family of the dictator (Timothy Dalton) of an Eastern European country and gradually melts his heart.

God forgive me, I enjoyed it!

Darth Egregious from London, 26th July, 2005

I'm sorry, but I did. I think it depends on your mood; I was willing to be entertained that day. The plot is wafer thin; the film's original title of 'The King and Oy' should tell you something. However, it does have some good lines in it, and since I've not seen Drescher in anything else (I must have blocked her from Spinal Tap), she was slightly grating but not unbearably so. The real shock was how much Timothy Dalton looks like Stalin! To think in all of those Bond films British Intelligence had a communist dictator as their top spy. Anyway, he's charmingly bemused as the thawing Dictator, and McNiece and Malahide provide good support as ever.

Magic Wand Needed

A Customer from East Sussex, 2nd April, 2005

A by-the-book budget movie. Provided you are not expecting great things, this movie is entertaining, although it borrows from just about every other movie you have seen. There are a few quality scenes with the children, and/or PM and/or Duke/President, but the leading lady audibly grated throughout. Nevertheless the Beauty and the Beast concept is utilised in a modern setting to quite good effect, providing you with an amusing time working out which is which!

She is doing what she does the best in her best ways, yes it is predictable plot, the story is inspired from old movie but it is great version. the cast delivers, funny script and it is really enjoyable.

God forgive me too! I laughed more than once.

A Customer from Uckfield, 18th March, 2010

bad, trashy and fun if you are in the right mood. It has a strange charm, a film recued by a couple of good british character actors and Dalton but it ended a rough day on a light note.

I watched this online, but I was very disappointed to find out that the last minutes of the film were missing!
