A Harvard law professor takes up the case of a southern black man on death row for murdering a white woman, a crime he may not have committed. Discovering the truth proves difficult, as a Bible-spouting inmate and the brutal police officer who convicted the condemned man lead the professor down blind alleys and into treacherous waters. |
In this entertaining thriller, Sean Connery plays a law professor called in to help Blair Underwood, who claims he has been wrongly convicted of the murder of a young child, partly because local cop Laurence Fishburne beat a confession out of him. Connery is as charismatic as ever in a story that, though a little uneven at times, manages some pleasing twists on the usual formula. Director Arne Glimcher throws in enough red herrings to keep viewers guessing right to the end and makes good use of the Everglades locations.
