A magician's flirtations and dangerous stunts begin to bother his wife. |
Lightweight but endearing romance from an era when Hollywood really knew how to cook this recipe properly, featuring the lovely Loretta Young involved with magician David Niven in a vicissitude-strewn marriage. Director Tay Garnett brings his aerial knowledge to bear on some scenes, but seems generally content to let the movie coast along on the charms of the leading players, which is no bad thing, though a few more touches of wit in the script wouldn't have gone amiss. There's nice support from the likes of wacky eccentrics C Aubrey Smith, Hugh Herbert, Eve Arden and ZaSu Pitts, though in truth all are given little to do. A young Broderick Crawford surprises, though. Pleasant enough without being particularly memorable (except perhaps for aspiring magicians).

Halliwell's Film Guide
Slightly scatty romantic comedy, amiable if not quite good enough to stand the test of time, but with a great cast.
