Kati and Steffi, both seventeen, are best friends. But where Steffi seems to have the perfect life--a great boyfriend and a loving home--Kati can't find a boyfriend and her parents are often arguing. The tables suddenly turn, though, when Kati discovers that Steffi's father is having an affair. As Steffi's perfect world falls apart, the girls try to find out all they can about her father's new lover. Filled with rage, the two best friends decide to carry out a plot that will change their lives forever. This original German film was written and directed by Maria von Heland.

Teenage film with surprising depth

ThomasKus from , 17th January, 2004

Although this looks superficially like another film for and about teenage angst it stands out from the crowd for a number of reasons.

Kati and Steffi are two long timne friends who live a normal teenage life in Berlin. But life is about to deal a few surprises and through crisis situations both girls change and grow up in their own ways, a sometimes painful and dififcult process.

I particularly liked the depth that all main characters brought to their roles, the realistic and belivable story, the quality of acting and the thoguhtful but never overpowering soundtrack. No happy endings but a hopful one! It is not a family film as such but would certainly be suitable for teenagers to watch with their friends or - dare I suggest it - with their parents.

The DVD contains afew extras that are worth exploring but nothing really special.

Overall a little gem of a film that is well worth watching!

Interesting alternative teen-movie

jonezy from Surrey, 18th March, 2004

I enjoyed this. It was a very European coming of age teen movie for two 16 year old German school girls.

Set against the backdrop off a powerful pop soundtrack, family, sexual and loyalty issues it really explored mature themes in a refreshing manner.

Reminded me of Swedish director Lucas Moodyson; especially his debut Show Me Love. Worth renting but not if you're a fan of American high school movies!

Fantastic

Jennie Fraser from London, 16th June, 2004

A really beautiful little film.
I'm so glad I rented it.
All the characters are well rounded and beautifully acted, with no hint of tacky teenage melodrama.
Would highly recommend this to anyone!

Read on...

A Customer from Herts, 24th January, 2005

Sub-titles are not the easiest way to watch a film due to the fact you're so busy reading the text you can miss some of the action, or vice-versa, however this is a low budget gem and due to both a good screenplay and acting from all the main characters, is thoroughly worth persevering with the fact that, unless you're fluent in German, you've no choice other than to watch it with all those pesky sub-titles. Rent!

Dross

Don't bother renting this film, it's about the same quality of entertainment as a 3pm kids TV show, I didn't make it to the end.

just a little too

Matthew Norris from Manchester, 28th July, 2005

This film left me with a foreboding that it might turn up in a school 'personal and social' lesson. That doesn't mean that it is bad, but rather that it had an unnerving nuance of reality that left a slightly insipid flavour, and an ending that I felt was just a little too 'right'. The acting is good and characters are developed well. The story unfolded is above average for the genre and its narration has a masterful gentleness, however the approach lacked thrall for myself.

Alright indie teen movie

Kati from London, England, 22nd February, 2005

This film is okay to watch, but nothing special. It's quite the typical German teen movie, not too pretty, lots of family and relationships trouble, first drug experience, in this case even death, but it's not very deep. The two main actresses are quite good though.
