When John Peter Barrie escapes from a maximum security mental institution, the police assign all available resources to finding him. Barrie is a dangerous sex offender known as the Devil's Disciple. Morse is assisted by Barrie's psychiatrist, Dr. Esther Martin. Barrie contacts Morse and they begin a deadly game of cat and mouse. When Morse refuses to play the game Barrie's way, the madman kidnaps a woman and demands that Dr. Martin be held for a future exchange. As the investigation proceeds, Morse believes Barrie has accomplices in the area but after a local cultist is killed, he realizes he has been looking in wrong direction all along.

Give this a miss - especially if you like Morse

A Customer from Devon, 13th August, 2005

I am a fan of Morse and have enjoyed every other episode I have seen. However, this one is pretty atrocious. The plot is laughable and could have been written by a teenager - and the script is truly dreadful - what on earth was Danny Boyle thinking? All the characters are straight out of bad horror novels and the actors are forced to deal with bloated and stagey dialogue. Plus, Keith Allen just can't act. Overall very disappointing. If you enjoy good crime drama watch any Morse other than this one.

Despite other reviews - I decided to watch this Morse episode. So far I have watched some 26 episodes.. this one beats all. Exciting, scarey.. a real thriller from start to finish. Keith Allen magnificent. A good night in with a DVD
