The real story of youth in the nineties is this : chemicals, clubs, bars, pubs, pushing the vinyl, blagging the guest list, mobile phones, trainers, combats, care-less, monged, mashed, sorted, safe. And here it is in all its pupil-dilated, teeth grinding, club-hopping glory. The weekend has well and truly landed...

Radio Times

Director Justin Kerrigan's debut movie is a valiant attempt to put across the atmosphere of Britain's club scene. It follows the fortunes of five friends who go out on a lost, drug-and-drink-fuelled weekend in the dance halls of Cardiff. Jip (John Simm) can't get it together with girls and confides in friend Lulu (Lorraine Pilkington) as their night out turns into two days of frenzied rave-up. Trainspotting it isn't, but the spirited acting from the talented youngsters and the inspired visuals, which come out of the screen like a chemical rush, combine to make it a fascinating social commentary.

Halliwell's Film Guide

Energetic youth movie, using lurid fantasy sequences and stylistic excesses of one sort and another to duplicate the druggy experiences of its characters.

Oh my God!!!

Gonzo Soul from Thoroughfare,Woodbridge, 6th May, 2004

Probably the worst British films ever. When this came out everyone was going on about this bloody film.
They cant even hold a decent telephone conversation!!! 'Geezer?'.
'Geezer, geezer?'... and on and on...
Supremely irritating!!!

The official countdown to the weekend

Paterno Odong from London, England, 7th November, 2004

OK, to put it simply this is probably one of the greatest British films I have ever seen, finally something you can relate to.

It is easy to see this film to be purely about drug culture (drawing comparisons to trainspotting) but it's not. Its more about 5 friends and thier countdown to the weekend. This is the kinda film where you sit in with you mates pointing fingers shouting 'oi that was you last weekend'.

Another great thing about this film is the dialogue is REAL, fair enough when it comes down to something official your Englands grammar champ but when your around your mates this is how the most of us talk.

In every detail you can relate this film to some part of your life and well WATCH it and see into yourself.

Watch out for the national anthem!!!

Ace film

Enjoyed Trainspotting & Shallow Grave, you'll love this. Captures the club / rave culture of the 90s, whilst gently ridiculing just how stupid we looked to the undrugged.

A missed opportunity

McClennan from , 7th May, 2005

Disappointing look at the 90s clubbing scene as some pillpoppers chase that rush in Cardiff for a tip top night. Focussing on a few friends, the film touches upon luvved up talk, coming down and tries to get across the general feeling both of being that person and the scene in which they participate. Does it work? In parts it does. The main characters aren't that likeable, although as the film progresses they do develop some warmth, particularly the central love story, which despite being relatively brief is very well done. I think it's symptomatic of the drug involved that it's difficult to warm to the group at the start with their motivations being different from what they finally become. Unfortunately the weakest part is the club scenes themselves which should have been very easy to make exciting. As it is the film fails to really capture the thrill and buzz of the scene and it's left to the characters to give the film some depth, although that only happens in the final third.

scary

lucyrabbit from , 30th November, 2009

Well acted but I can't help feeling, ther has been a lot of research recently to show that most prostitutes in UK work that way becuse they won't to. it has to be easier than my job. and it pays more I guess no-one gives me £300 per hour. Maybe barking up the wrong tree. However, taking it as a film , well acted, and believable, mounting tension, well cast. I made my daughter watch it just in case.
