Gervais is brilliant

Most likely, in his own words - Ricky Gervais is the funniest man in comedy. The fact is he never disappoints. As such, Animals is a great DVD to rent or own - also look into Politics - which is much the same -- but slightly darker and funnier. He's clearly still mastering his craft in Animals; it is unconventional comedy - but Rickies caustic whit is as brilliant as ever. Nigel

Funny - but not that funny!

Perhaps I expected too much. Ricky Gervais in undoubtedly funny. But this did not make me really laugh. It was amusing enough though. His brand of humour worked better in the Office in my opinion. But you may think differnt.

Really funny...in parts.

Being a fan of The Office I had to check this out. For me, Ricky was really funny as the cringeworthily inappropriate and misguided character he is more famous for. Also, some of the animal sketches were a la Eddie Izzard (or Richard Pryor's earlier standup) 'i bet this is what they're thinking when they...' educating in his familiarly deliberately ignorant way. It was the times when he stopped being silly and told 'funny' stories of his life where it didn't work for me. Some of his crude or disrespectful jokes could have been funny if they came from David Brent but as Ricky he came across a little like Bernard Manning or Jim Davidson. If he was more consistent in who he was trying to be it could have been a 5 star performance.

David Brent for 1 solid hour!!

Having been a big fan of the Office, I watched this with high hopes and I wasn't disappointed. This had me in stiches for the whole hour or so, and is a non-stop piss take out of mother nature. Mainly targeting the Animal kingdom, he pokes fun at other areas including the Bible, Humans and the French!

Throughout he is constantly in the David Brent type character, cocky, informed, the source of all knowledge. This worked really well for me if you loved the Office I can nearly guarantee you will like this. If you haven't seen the Office, watch it anyway to see what you have been missing.

Pure Class.

Ricky Gervais - Animals

After my original ordeal of renting a Ricky Gervais comedy gig, AFTER watching 90% on Utube, I decided not to do the same with this one, Much to my pleasure it was a lot more enjoyable and this has to be one to watch for anyone who likes Ricky, This is arguably one of his best gigs and hits you with the hardest of laughs at the most least expected of times. Very enjoyable to watch for anyone!

i just read a review where someone had written that stand up is not for gervais?? i nearly threw up!! animals,politics and fame are all master pieces! few comediens before him have tapped into the animal world with their humour and ricky gervais does it in hillarious style in my opinion. the stuff about the bible was quality! unless you believe in all that then you may not get the humour....... defo rent or buy this stand up. i have all of them and am going to see the new stand up science, can't wait!
