Based on the board game Clue (known as Cluedo in the UK), this is a perfect example of a gimmick movie. The plot (an amalgam of various Agatha Christie clichés) involves a number of guests invited to dinner at a spooky mansion, where they endure a murderous evening. Scripted and directed by British sitcom stalwart Jonathan Lynn in his first Hollywood venture, this is a broad, somewhat camp comedy with a vulgar edge. Originally released with three different endings, though there was only one version in the UK.

A great idea for a film and very well implemented, too!

It's not often in the last 20 years or so that an original idea has been committed to celluloid, but Clue is one of those rare breeds - a movie you haven't seen twenty times before.

Based on the classic board game, all your favourite characters are in there; Professor Plum, Colonel Mustard Miss Scarlet etc. and they are played by a very capable cast which includes Christopher Lloyd and Lesley-Ann Warren.

Clue's key selling point is that it refuses to take itself seriously - it is played out at an impossibly fast pace, with both subtle and slapstick humour throughout, and at times is more like a stage show than a movie.

Various people keep dropping dead for all manner of reasons, as you the viewer watch and attempt to piece together your own version of events at home, as it all unfolds - just like the game!

The DVD is nicely presented with the option to view all the different endings - which for once with a DVD release, are definitely worth watching!

An overlooked gem of a movie, in a very well put-together DVD!

Very funny

Almost everyone saw this years ago and remembers it as being very funny. I recently watched it again and found it to be even funnier. The cast is outstanding, there are plenty of clever one liners and the multiple endings add to the fun of the film. A great film for the whole family to watch over and over again.

Old friend reunited!

This film reminds me of how sad me and my sister must have been as kids - but do you know what I don't care! We taped this of the tv and watched it every day for a year, and could quote it word for word. See I told you we were sad. But this film is great from the original premise to the comic timing of the actors. I have no idea whether this film was well received by critics or whether or not it was a success. All I know is that it rates in my top 5 fave films of all time - and I have watched a lot of films! It might be considered weird to to love this film, but if it is weird then you can keep normal!!!!

I really wouldnt bother

Completely risible attempt at the 'comedy thriller' genre - I lost interest after about five minutes. Over-acted to an embarrassing degree and with possibly the world's most badly written script. Far, far better to rent 'Murder By Death' instead.

Don't waste your time!

We rented this film because it was highly rated and thought it would be good fun to watch....but that didnt happen, i can't write a full review on it because after about 45 minutes we turned it off! can't really put my finger on what i didnt like about it, but it just wasn't my cup of tea at all.

Fantastic fun!

Non-stop comedy with two gags that you miss for every one that you spot, gloriously hammy acting from an all star cast and directed at a breakneck pace leading to several unexpected endings. We loved this film and would recommend it to anyone who wants a fun film that doesn't take itself too seriously!

Did the butler do it?

A film based on the popular board game where the characters have to unravel a gruesome murder in an spooky Victorian mansion. The action speeds up throughout the film with Tim Curry as the butler apparently on high doses of speed and adrenaline, another iconic performance to go with his Frank n Furter (Rocky Horror) Lesley Ann Warren is the sexiest vamp imaginable, Madeleine Kahn mysterious and cookie, Eileen Brennan rather weird and Colleen Camp as a picture post card, men's magazine vision of French maid, with a full suporting cast. The picture provides the viewer with four alternative endings of which any one or all may be selected. High comedy at its frantic best.

Great Fun!

Loved this film so much. I first watched it when i was a kid and always remembered it. When i saw it again in my 20's i was a little worried i wouldn't enjoy it as much, but i was wrong. I loved it even more! A must for all comedy lovers!
