Benjamin Barry is an advertising executive competing with two female co-workers for a major campaign for a diamond merchant. He cuts a deal with his competitors that the account is his if he can make a woman of their choice fall in love with him in 10 days. In comes Andie Anderson who, in turn, is writing a story on how to lose a guy in 10 days as a bet with her boss to be allowed to write more substantial stories. With a hidden agenda in each camp, will either party be able to complete their mission?

As the title suggests, this insipid romantic comedy will prove adept at driving away men — in just a matter of minutes — and its female audience may well follow. Kate Hudson's journalist is assigned a magazine feature for which she must snare a guy and then make him dump her, while her target, Matthew McConaughey, is involved in a bet to make a woman fall in love with him — and both have ten days to do it in. Despite the odd mildly amusing observation on the mating rituals of New Yorkers and some pretty cinematography, the contrived plot and leaden supporting cast smother any sign of the light, fizzy wit that's essential for this kind of film. Matters aren't helped by Hudson and McConaughey, who, while undoubtedly an attractive couple, lack the chemistry needed to give this fallen soufflé of a movie the sexy lift it so badly needs.

suprisingly good

A Customer from london, 15th December, 2003

Having suspected this would be a chick-flick, I was delightfully suprised at just how much I enjoyed this movie. I laughed, I cried, I shook my head in disgust but most of all I thoroughly enjoyed it. Kate Hudson is gorgeous and much like her mother Goldie Hawn, she is able to capture the audience with her stunning beauty, quirkiness and sense of fun. The chemistry between the two stars was believeable and strong enough to warrant me constantly hoping they would fall in love and it all works out. Well, you'll have to watch the film to find if if they do or not. Needless to say it does have the usual amount of 'American Cheese' that their romantic comedies cannot escape from but in this circumstance I forgive them.

Braindead chick flick

If your partner rents this film get a book or magazine to read while it's on. From the opening credits to the end this is purile drivel. Performances? there are none. If I should ever have to see this film again I think I would lose the will to live.

Good Fun

Lilmagic from Somerset, 28th February, 2004

I really enjoyed this film, albeit a little predictable. Kate Hudson is just brilliant as Andie Anderson. She manages to create that aura, which has you wondering how any guy could ever fail to love her, but then becomes every guy’s worst nightmare and has you thinking how any guy could go near her!! All down to excellent acting skills without a doubt. Some very funny moments, not to mention toe curling moments too - a good Sunday afternoon film in my opinion.

A little cheesy

drawne from london, 1st March, 2004

Interesting love story starts off a little cheesy but gets better. Believable performances from both actors but don't be put off by the boring introduction.

A Customer from Cumbria, 1st March, 2010

i thought this was fun, light hearted, enjoyable... typical girly flik.. well acted in my opinion and there are parts of the movie ie. blowing his nose for him, that creased me... how embarrassing for him. Id gladly sit down and watch this over and over, if you want a giggle, watch this movie! kate hudson is a chip of the old block.
