Forever Young. Forever Cursed. Dorian Gray is Beautiful. Charming. Powerful. CURSED

Young Dorian Gray (Ben Barnes) arrives fresh on the London social scene and is taken under the wing of corrupt, devilish Lord Henry Wotton (Colin Firth) who introduces him to the seedy pleasures of London life. Desperate to protect the youth and beauty captured in his portrait, Dorian swears he would give anything to stay as he is…even his soul. Slipping deeper and deeper into a world of sin, sex and celebrity, his deeds grow ever more evil in an attempt to hide his secret.

But when he eventually finds love, Dorian struggles to hide the secret behind his eternal youth. Is it too late for redemption or can love un-lock Dorian’s humanity and save his soul?

Empire

In turning to Ben Barnes, [director Oliver Parker and screenwriter Toby Finlay] remain true to Gray's much lauded good looks, and unveil a near-perfect paradigm of wide-eyed naivety

HOW DO I GET A PIECE OF THIS SATANIC SOUL SURRENDER ACTION?!

Norman Barry from Surrey, England., 15th March, 2010

I thought I'd do my culture bit and find out what this story was all about. Now I know. In terms of the film, three observations - i) it looks great ii) FIRTH's stick-on beard fools no one iii) BARNES is absolutely gorgeous (it's been about a year, I was never confused, but I definately would).

Just silly in places, with plays on regrets that were just not in the original piece and including what looked like an attmept to set up a Dorian II at the very end. If Wilde were alive today he might have liked it, but, then again I think he most likely wouldn't, who knows what he would have made of the modern cinema? I'd only like to think that he would have insisted that more of the text ended up on the screen. The 1945 film, whilst also dramatically flawed, is a better entertainment.
