Three short stories. In 'The Granton Star Cause' a lad living at home with his parents, who has it all; beautiful girlfriend, star of the local football team.. suddenly meets God... In 'A Soft Touch' Johnny is the guy who is easily manipulated. In 'The Acid House' a youth with a passion for raves and drugs takes a trip with a difference.

Radio Times

This trio of very dark tales from Irvine Welsh's anthology has a great cast (including Ewen Bremner and Kevin McKidd from the superlative Trainspotting), but these stories are too wild, weird and unpleasant to appeal to anybody other than hardcore fans of Welsh's book. Although the stories — a downtrodden teen meets God and is transformed into a fly, nice guy suffers from the neighbour from hell, and an acid-taking clubber swaps bodies with a newborn baby — all offer dramatic potential, they seem more calculated to shock and offend with graphic sex and in-your-face nastiness than to actually entertain. The cinematic equivalent of a bad trip.

original, ironic comedy

Ian Ritchie from Aberdeen, 8th September, 2004

Fantastic!!!
I bought this, after being told it was very funny, and although it wasn't what I was expecting, it is one of the best dvd's I have watched.
It is very graphic in places, so if you are not into violence, sex, swearing, drugs it is definitely not your bag.
There are three completely unconnected short stories on this film, and each one tells a depressing story, and probably in its own way teaches a lesson.
It is not your classic comedy, but it is excellently directed, and I was laughing out loud when I wasn't feeling sorry for some of the characters.
This film brings out a mixture of emotions and comedy is only one of them. Only Irvine Welsh could come up with this genius, and although it is more likely to appeal to the guys than any of the women out there, (as my girlfriend tells me!!) it is definitely worth watching!!!
5 star acting, 5 star storylines and 5 star directing and producing gives this...guess what?!? 5 stars

Pure Genius

A Customer from Edinburgh, Scotland, 21st November, 2004

This film is definitely not for the faint hearted. I first saw this movie when it was released and it is brilliant to see it again on DVD.
A must watch, as it really captures life in a housing scheme.....especially the second story, which is called 'A Soft Touch'.
Not many films deserve 5 stars, but this one certainly does.

Take a trip

Whipster from from Shropshire, 27th July, 2010

Weirdly over the top trilogy of short stories. Taken as a whole it's a sort of harder edged 'Trainspotting' with several easily recognisable and similar themes. You're either gonna love or loathe the content, there's no middle ground here. First story is actually very funny and surprisingly hard hitting. I laughed out loud on numerous occasions. Second episode not so funny as you'll want to literally kill (or at the very least beat them with your tiny fists), not only the neighbour from hell but also the girlfriend! Again it draws an almost palpable reaction from the viewer. And the final story again isn't so amusing! But again it'll draw a reaction from you as a waster experiences a body swap with a new born baby. The cast in each part is, without excpetion, quite brilliant. But with a predominance of broad Scottish accents understanding some of the dialogue can be quiet challenging...but well worth it. Equally hilarious and annoying this is a cult classic in the making. 4 stars.

Three different tales all quite funny. Music soundtrack is really good too. A must for anyone wanting nonsence and weird with lots of gags.

Curiosity...

A Customer from Stenhousemuir, 19th February, 2010

Had just finished the book itself so wanted to see if the film was any good and to be honest was left fairly disappointed. 'Trainspotting' this most definitely ain't! The acting is shocking at times and even the usually brilliant Ewen Bremner puts in a drab display. One to avoid!
