Rock 'n' roll roadie Le Donk (Paddy Considine, star of IN AMERICA, HOT FUZZ) sees a great opportunity when he spots up-and-coming rapper Scor-Zay-Zee, and instantly recognises his potential. Deciding to take the fledgling artist under his wing, and with the help of his 'friends', the Arctic Monkeys, so begins Le Donk's masterplan to make the rapper a star and them both extremely rich.

Revisiting a character who first appeared in a short film featured on the Channel Four programme, SHANE'S WORLD, and having worked together previously on A ROOM FOR ROMEO BRASS and DEAD MAN'S SHOES, old friends Considine and writer/director Shane Meadows (THIS IS ENGLAND, SOMERS TOWN) reunite for this very funny mockumentary that's sure to be a hit with fans of the likes of THIS IS SPINAL TAP and CB4.

Not as funny as you might hope, but...

TonyPP from , 1st December, 2009

As a mockumentary, this is not as laugh out loud funny as I was hoping, but it still has a charm. Considine gives his all and succeeds in making a character with zero self-awareness watchable and almost likeable, but its Scor-Zay-Zee himself who almost steals the movie. Its interesting rather than compelling, but still worth checking out.

Major Disappointment

andy4766 from , 13th December, 2009

As a longtime fan of Meadows and Considine this was just painful... I wanted to like it a lot, I really expected it would be nothing less than great- they both have an undeniable gift for character and comedy It starts brightly enough but then very quickly I realised I was watching the pair of them contrive a film around a private joke I could handle that, I tend to gravitate more toward stuff that other people dismiss as self-indulgent but the film just fell flat again and again and my patience grew thin By the end of the film I just felt embarrassed for all concerned- it was like weak Coogan

Paddy Whacked - I was there!

TheApples from , 15th March, 2010

Another fantastic, not quite feature length, film from Shane Meadows with Paddy Considine showing his comic talent. The film was made over a few days with very little money (£30k...?) and it is fair to say that this is evident in the slightly rough feel to it. I found that rough feel was part of the charm and watched it with in the knowledge that it would not be anywhere near as slick as, say, This is England. Inevitably those who sit down to watch with different expectations might see this as a flaw to the film. The central character, Le Donk, is apparently something Considine has been doing for years - for his own amsusement. Meadows wanted to do something completely different after This is England and Somerstown so decided to go 'fly-on-the-wall' following Le Donk as he tries to get his protege - a brilliant, massively overweight real life rapper named Scor-Zay-Zee - to appear on stage at Lancashire Cricket Ground in front of several thousand Arctic Monkeys fans. Le Donk is also dealing with becoming a father and it is the scenes with his ex-partner that bring up some of the funniest moments in the film, along with some of the more touching ones. In some ways - considering the musical context and the style of the film - it is an update on the brilliant Spinal Tap. There is certainly an air of farce surrounding everything Le Donk says and does. Overall it feels like a lovingly crafted, funny and shortish film with Considine and Meadows on form again. I met Paddy Considine at the gig - sadly this is not featured (even in the DVD extras). I have a signed gig ticket though.

Le donk and scor-zay-zee

ziggymike1 from , 6th March, 2010

Worst film I have ever wasted energy on. The effort of opening the envelope and loading the disc feels too much for what you will get out of this film. I would rather shoot myself in the face than ever be put threw this again.

For any aspiring film maker and fan shane meadows shows how its done. Forget de niro and scorsee shane meadows and paddy considine are proving to be one of cinemas great partnerships. Somebody needs to provide this phenominal film maker with a huge budget to really get his teeth into.

Let's all not get pretentious now

CakeBotherer from , 25th February, 2010

Can't work out why people aren't getting this one, calm down Deidre Barlow indeed. It's an hilarious and at times touching film that sees Shane back on top form and Paddy superb as the lovable loser and legend that is 'Le Donk'. Not up it's own arse with the clever bollocks and better for it. Put any preconceptions aside and sit back and enjoy this little gem. Shane and Paddy, i salute you !
