Disappointing

zombiegrrrl from , 7th November, 2009

I really wanted to like this film as I loved the book. But it really disappointed me. Some of the 'gore' looks really good but some of the other effects just arnt up to scratch. The middle of the film was pretty slow and none of the charecters were that likable. I think I may of enjoyed this more if I hadnt of read the books.

Poor film

King1and from , 15th March, 2010

To tell you the truth wasn't expecting much and I was right not to, very poor. Story line not great, acting rubbish, effects were ok. If Clive Barker keeps making rubbish films like this then I can't see any of them ever being shown in cinemas but go straight to DVD. Do yourself a favour and stay away from this rubbish.

dissapointing to say the least

A Customer from liverpool, 10th March, 2010

i was sadly dissapointed by this film, because of clive barkers earlier works i expected a lot more action and blood for my money. half of this film is talk and bad suspension, the action is all in 5 minutes and then its just more melodrama. this is the plot: girl gets face pulled off in old haunted house. years later a young psychic gets a woman novelist old enough to be his mum to let him in her haunted house experiment, they mess up a few times, then they bonk. the ghosts do come out (eventually) and write in cuts all over his flesh. she uses him to write loads of books to get rich, by then hes her slave and runs away, a nutter shes hired gets him, has him tell his story (this is were the film starts) and then skins him. the loony then dies by the ghosts, she comes, takes the skin and thats the end were you see the kids ghost walk off. dont bother.

Still not as good as the books

A Customer from UK, 6th March, 2010

Barker films have a tendency to dissapoint me. His writing is so rich and imaginative that it's almost impossible to translate to film, and the worlds he creates in my head are much bigger and brighter than the films I've seen. That said, Book of Blood was as sensitively rendered as any of his previous films and certainly kept me entertained for a few hours. The protagonists were suitably surprising and the horror traditionally Barker macabre.
