VINYAN is a terrifying film that takes every parent's worst nightmare and follows it into new realms of sheer horror. After losing their only child in the devastating tsunami of Southeast Asia, Paul (Rufus Sewell, DARK CITY) and Janet Belhmer (Emmanuelle Beart, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE) barely have the strength to go on. Despite being a little disturbed by Janet's seemingly irrational claims that she saw their son in a documentary about the orphans living in the Burmese jungle, Paul shows his support by agreeing to join her on a search for the boy. But what they encounter on their trip are horrors both earthly and ungodly: drug traffickers threaten their lives and the presence of a clan of inexplicably rabid children seem to suggest a fate that goes far beyond death. Julie Dreyfus (KILL BILL - VOL.1) co-stars in this unimaginable descent into pure madness.

Form Over Substance

Human from , 25th September, 2009

Can't fault the cinematography, but the script is a non event and the acting B grade at best.

A poor, dull horror-thriller

DJM666 from , 25th September, 2009

A disappointing horror-thriller, with Rufus Sewell and Emmanuelle Béart both putting in good performances in the lead roles and the film having some nice looking settings, but for most of the 85-minute runtime the film is slow, tedious and largely uninteresting, and it lacks any tension, suspense or atmosphere.

weird and slow

A Customer from Bath, 25th September, 2009

Despite some good acting (especially from Emmanuelle Beart), the movie that starts promising turns quickly into some weird meaningless nightmare. Good at showing how one can fall into madness. But don't expect a classic plot as there isn't really one.
Weird and distrubing as i guess it was meant to be. Must have been really disturbing to film...

unsettling

This isn't a slash and gore horror but more of a psychological thriller where the claustrophobic camera work and setting makes you feel uneasy as you watch the insanity unravel

70's throwback

JamieM from , 27th October, 2009

As much as I admire the long slow takes and the creation of mood and atmosphere over story the film just didn't quite gel for me. People looking for straightforward horror are looking in the wrong place. This is more a psychological horror as they descent into a very dark place both physically and mentally after the possible death of their child. The lighting and locations are great and provide a great atmoshere but I cant help but feel like it was made with a very loose working script.

What the..........

Imabitconfused from , 7th October, 2009

Well, well, well. All I can say is 'Proper rubbish'. This film looked promising from the start but quickly goes down hill........nothing happens, & I mean nothing at all. After 40 minutes of nothing I was wishing death upon the lead characters, especially the lady. Just a frustrating few hours of nothingness. Don't waste your time....this is a film everyone should avoid.
