Based on the personal wartime experiences of journalist Mark Boal (who adapted his experiences with a bomb squad into a fact-based, yet fictional story), director Kathryn Bigelow's Iraq War-set action thriller THE HURT LOCKER presents the conflict in the Middle East from the perspective of those who witnessed the fighting firsthand -- the soldiers. As an elite Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team tactfully navigates the streets of present-day Iraq, they face the constant threat of death from incoming bombs and sharp-shooting snipers. In Baghdad, roadside bombs are a common danger. The Army is working to make the city a safer place for Americans and Iraqis, so when it comes to dismantling IEDs (improvised explosive devices) the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) crew is always on their game. But protecting the public isn't easy when there's no margin of error, and every second spend dismantling a bomb is another second spent flirting with death. Now, as three fearless bomb technicians take on the most dangerous job in Baghdad, it's only a matter of time before one of them gets sent to 'the hurt locker'. Jeremy Renner, Guy Pearce, and Ralph Finnes star.

Hollywood Reporter

Tensely action-packed and muscularly directed by Kathryn Bigelow, this tale of an elite U.S. army bomb disposal unit in Baghdad is a familiar story in new clothes, targeted at the young male demographic

Hurt Locker

Duffy2 from , 6th January, 2010

The film follows the rotation of bomb disposal expert Sgt William James (played by Jeremy Renner) through a 38 day rotation in Baghdad. The film tries, quite successfully, to portray what makes this man tick while he is risking his life defussing IEDs.

You are left in suspense throughout the film by Katheryn Bigalow whom has the foresight to blow up Guy Pearce in the first five minutes, leaving you uncertain of what to expect throughout the film.

Excellent and must see film.

THE OSCAR CABINET!

Norman Barry from Surrey, England., 12th March, 2010

Yet again, less (money) is more (quality). I watched this on the evening it won it's Oscars. 'Best Film'? - it probably didn't have much serious competition and, although long, it's intensity makes the time fly by. Star cameos rather than leads give it gravitas without schmaltz. 'Best Director' - probably fair, Bigelow does a great job on (relatively) small budget and has created a gripping film about a difficult subject.

If you want action, just watch the trailer!

A Customer from Greater Manchester, 8th March, 2010

I was looking forward to watching this film. Unfortunatly, it did not live up to the hype. What few action scenes their are can be viewed by simply watching the trailer. Other than that its a depressing story which goes on for too long.

Why is there so much hype about this film?

Pedro1 from , 8th February, 2010

I was willing this movie to finish after half an hour. Just a few bomb disposal incidents patched together. We have seen it all before. I cannot understand the hype. Nothing that I could see indicated 9 Oscar nominations.

This was pretty good - but I don't think quite deserving of the Oscar.

Brilliant

Mercbird from Kent, 10th March, 2010

I thought this was an excellent film. I was dreading it because I hate war related films but this is not about war its about a bomb disposal team in a war torn country. It deserved the oscars it won. Get it on blue ray with the surround sound turned right up, absolutely room shaking. recommend this film!!

Excellent

Very underrated movie. This shows the true horrors of war and the mental stresses the soldiers encounter in just trying to survive everyday
