BLOOD RAIN marks the second feature of South Korean director Kim Dae-seung (BUNGEE JUMPING OF THEIR OWN), and is a detective thriller set in 1808 during the Joseon Dynasty. Mysterious and deadly events are filling the residents of the remote island of Donghwa with a sense of foreboding. A local shaman (Choi Ji-na) collapses during an annual ritual, and seems momentarily possessed by the spirit of Kang (Jeon Ho-jin), a local lord who was executed. Lee Won-kyu (Cha Seung-weon) arrives from the mainland to investigate and is immediately met with a murder case. As the body count rises, Lee discovers a connection between the victims, and chillingly, to Kang himself.

A unique mystery slasher flick set in ancient times

driftedangel from , 30th October, 2006

Blood Rain takes the usual murder mystery come slasher flick and transfers it to Ancient Korea, throwing in a highily rated police officer to investigate deaths in a small village. The further he delves the more of a government conspiracy he discovers. With the help of a mysterious fighter he soon hears of an unjust public murder(shown in a very gory and to excellent effects flashback). Blood Rain does run at an average pace an may be slightly longer then necessary, but this Korean film is certainly a rather unique way of combining popular genres and well worth a watch for those fans tired of murderous long haired woman(personally I still get a kick out of this popular genre, but then I love the orient cinema). Those looking for something fresh should take a look at Blood Rain
