The 'Real American Hero' or 'Action Man', as he is known to British audiences, goes international with this big-screen action film. Stephen Sommers (THE MUMMY, VAN HELSING) directs this live-action adventure featuring a huge cast of stars, including Dennis Quaid, Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Sienna Miller. Ray Park, who made his name playing Darth Maul in THE PHANTOM MENACE, takes on the role of Snake Eyes. An elite unit known as G.I. Joe or the Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity is comprised of special operatives. Headed by General Hawk (Dennis Quaid) and led by Duke (Channing Tatum) G.I. Joe use hi-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil organization headed by a double-crossing Scottish arms dealer, Destro (Christopher Eccleston).

SFX Magazine

Coming after Michael Bay's terrifyingly psychotic TRANSFORMERS sequel, it's a relief to have a lowbrow fantasy actioner that's lively and busy without being crushingly relentless

Awful

Good special effects, but otherwise dismal. Wooden acting.

A nearly nearly film

Mac from North Wales, 18th March, 2010

This will appeal to fans of special effects as there are many but most activate so fast that you cannot see what is going on and the screen instead of being a magestic panorama seems cluttered at times. The story and dialogue borrow heavily from past films such as Aliens and Star Wars and overall the film was disappointing. The use of faster than you can take it in special computerised effects is now commonplace which is a shame since a spectacle is what you want not endless bursts of blurred motion.

Pretty dire

A Customer from London, 6th March, 2010

Where to start. Well the CGI was pretty good and errrr...., well that's about it really. Naff plot and so many holes in it that it's hard to know where to start. e.g. did they really have ice that sank? There's just too many good films out there to bother wasting your evening on.

Well made and entertaining

iTrackday from , 22nd February, 2010

As with most people I rented this film with no real expectation but a hope that the effects lived up to what I had seen on the trailer, and I think they did. This was a fun enough film that ticked all of the boxes and fits snuggly in the comic book-to-film genre of films. Well worth having on your list to make up numbers.
