Directed by Kari Skogland (LIBERTY STANDS STILL) and adapted from the autobiography of Martin McGartland, FIFTY DEAD MEN WALKING is the electrifying tale of a British secret services agent based in Northern Ireland during the late 80s. During the four years that he was stationed there and before his subsequent discovery, it is estimated that through his actions, McGartland was responsible for saving the lives of 50 men.

Sturgess once again confirms his ability to carry a film with a performance that is just as commanding but very different from his most notable roles in ACROSS THE UNIVERSE and 21

I assume many people watching this film have strong views on the 'Troubles' of Northern Ireland. What I find refreshing with this film is that in my opinion it takes a neutral stance. It is not pro one side or the other. What I also find refreshing is that it doesn't portray the UK army or police force as bumbling idiots. The story focuses on one mans entry into terrorism, and his relationship with the terrorists and also with the UK authorities. It's a tremendously exciting film with tons of suspence and action. The casting is brilliant, and the role of Ben Kingsley is one of the best I have seen for a long while. If you are not a huge fan of Northern Irish films, then perhaps this will be the one to entice you. It's neutrality is one of the keys to it's success. In my opinon well worth a watch.

Another fine movie about the troubles in Northern Ireland, I know it is still a touchy subject but this was a more realistic movie than most on the subject, my advice, don't miss this one!
