In 1997, the behind the scenes story of the British and Irish Lions Tour of South Africa was captured on camera for the first time - the documentary 'Living with Lions' is acclaimed as one of the greatest sports films ever made. Now, 12 years on, the Lions are back in South Africa and so is the film crew, recording every minute of what is arguably the most demanding contest in all of sport - The Lions against the Springboks in their own backyard. With absolute access to all areas of the Lions squad 'Living with the Pride' is the most intimate and intense portrait of the life of a Lion. From the Bagshot training camp to the magnificent final test victory in Johannesburg, Head Coach Ian McGeechan and his pride of Lions worked closely with the film crew to make an astonishing, compelling documentary. With access to every man, team, management and selection meeting; every training session as well as the passion, fury, joy and pain of the dressing room, it is uncompromising and riveting - the ultimate test of courage and character... no one has been this close before. Sometimes hilarious but more often brutal, bruising and bloody - it's exhilarating, emotional and often controversial and this is the real behind the scenes story of one of the most remarkable sports tours ever.

Better than the '05 behind the scenes effort

A Customer from Northampton, 22nd October, 2009

I'll keep it simple, Not as up close and intimate as Living with Lions from the '97 tour but still well worth watching for any rugby fan, British, Irish, South African or other. A good effort and much better than the behind the scenes dvd from 2005's tour. If you like your epic speeches you won't be disappointed.

Outstanding

A Customer from London, 13th December, 2009

As the previous review states, this is not as intimate as the 97 version and it could easily be several hours longer but nonetheless, this is one of the best sports documentaries ever and would appeal to anyone with an interest in sport, let alone rugby. The 2009 Lions played rugby in a manner which should never be forgotten and even the short clips from the matches remind you of just how good that team was, and how heartbreaking it was that, ultimately, they lost the series. Most importantly, the film emphasises the importance of Lions tours to rugby and the passion and love of the game oozes through the players and the coaching staff. In a time when rugby has become a mindless kicking game and sport has become more about vanity than actual sport, the Lions, managed by Ian McGeechan, show all aspiring sportsmen and managers what sport should be all about. Everyone who takes more than a passing interest in rugby considers the Lions to be the ultimate pinnacle in a player's career. Rugby World Cups may get the attention of the masses, but thanks to this tour, the Lions remains the ultimate sporting event.

A fascinating insight and behind the scenes look at tour in South Africa. Some spine tingelling speaches by the coaches just before they step out. If youre an egg chucker you will enjoy this.
