Uniquely disturbing and convincing horror

boogsy from , 7th June, 2009

this is no ordinary horror film, it is sickening, gruesome, extraordinarily bloody, and grabs the viewer by the throat from start to finish. mere words can not describe the emotional and graphic rollercoaster portrayed, yet strangely the film and plot are completely convincing, and at no times does it feel over the top or gruesome for the sake of it. this is an intense and fearfull physcological and physical horror film, that whilst not for anyone with a weak stomach, it is definately best in class, and not to be missed by anyone who likes a horror film to horrify them. this will, and in spades. beautifully filmed and acted, tight screenplay and superb use of sound. this is a one of kind and something you will not forget in a hurry, despite your best efforts. a must see whether your a horror film fan or not. highly recommended, AFTER watching this I recommend you rent the film Martyr , another french film, which together with Inside, have to be the most awesomely intense and vicious horror films made to date. rest assured, you will ensure your doors are double locked at night and during the day.

Other reviewers must have been watching a different film than me

KidLoco46 from , 16th October, 2009

This is the first time I have taken the time out to review a film on here. I felt I had to so as other people wouldn't waste their time like I have. How this film could be compared to the excellent Martyrs is a mystery, Martyrs is shocking, clever and asks questions from the view, the only question this asks is why the hell have i rented this rubbish. It is in the same mould as Hostel and to a lesser extent Saw, i.e. just mindless gore for the sake of it. yes its grisly but the over the top sound effects and blood make it more comic then shocking. The characters are so poorly fleshed out that you don't really care what happens to them, the only shock card it plays is that the main person is pregnant. If you are into your poorly scripted gore fest films then rent away, if you expect it to be a clever French twist on horror then rent Martyrs instead.

Avoid

McClennan from , 3rd November, 2009

Rubbish French horror that sets out to test the boundaries and ends up playing out like a B-movie film that isn't worth wasting your time with.

Bloody but brilliant

jezlovesfilm from , 22nd February, 2010

I'd heard so much about 'Inside', ever since Pascale Laugier's 'Martyrs' came out last year. Comparisons were made between the two, as well as with Alexander Aja's 'Switchblade Romance'. These comparisons were made due to the sheer brutality on display in all three, with the red stuff flowing freer than wine at a Greek Wedding. So how does 'Inside' fair? Technically - as well as atmospherically - it's a masterclass, with all the action taking place over one night. The graceful camerwork, exciting set pieces and subtle use of light and shadows is all done to amazing effect. What drops this from a 5 star to 4 star rating is the level of violence. 'Inside' is simply too bloody and, once we learn who the mysterious invader is, it becomes even less understandable how she can go to such atrocious levels of brutality. 'Inside' doesn't quite measure up to the knuckle-whitening tension of 'Switchblade Romance' (original French title 'High Tension') or the devastatingly tragic 'Martyrs'. That said, all three films represent an outstanding benchmark of horror - not just for the French, but for the genre as a whole. One to watch.

yummy mummies!

jesuskenevil from , 21st February, 2010

A very savage french 'horrific thriller'.It captures the sense of impending doom and has a few striking visuals early on, that I found were heavily influenced by asian horrors, such as J-on (the grudge). Solid performances from the female leads help this 'no story' film. My main problem with this movie is the editing style, whenever it gets going it does another gentle fade into the next section, this loses cohesion and made it feel a little aimless. Worth a rent though.

Inside [À l'Intérieur] (2007)

Libretio from , 5th February, 2010

French movie icon Beatrice Dalle plays a psycho who turns up on the doorstep of a grieving widow (Vanessa Paradis) on Christmas Eve. Paradis is heavily pregnant, and Dalle wants the unborn baby. What's more, she wants it NOW, and isn't necessarily willing to wait for the birth... If you think MARTYRS, HOSTEL and THE HILLS HAVE EYES were rough, INSIDE will knock you out of your seat with its nihilistic viewpoint and horrific, unsparing violence. Dalle goes through the cast with gruesome efficiency, murdering all and sundry in ways that will have faint-hearted viewers reaching for the valium long before events reach their shattering conclusion. And just when you think the filmmakers couldn't possibly top the catalogue of outrages which confront Paradis' beleaguered heroine - they do. It's horrible, cringe-making stuff, and it'll have you on the edge of your seat throughout. Not just a gore-fest, the film is an object lesson in economic filmmaking. The narrative is completely humourless and Paradis' character is less than sympathetic (she expresses grief for her recently deceased boyfriend in purely misanthropic terms), but once the excreta hits the wind machine, you'll be too traumatised to care. An absolute knockout - don't miss it. Aspect ratio: 1.85:1 Theatrical soundtracks: Dolby Digital Surround EX / DTS-ES

Horror Film That Makes You Cry??

Amosis from , 4th February, 2010

Worst horror, actually film I have ever seen. There is something wrong with seeing a heavily pregnant woman running around scared for her life and covered in blood as someone is trying to kill her for her baby. Somethings really should just be left alone. This is the first 'horror' I have ever cried at :(
