It is 709AD and Norway is in a state of unrest; tensions between Viking clans threaten to spill over into all-out war. However, in-fighting is the least of their worries when, from out of nowhere, an alien spacecraft crash-lands on to their territory, bringing with it a danger far greater than they could possibly imagine. Emerging from the wreckage is Kainan (James Caviezel, PASSION OF THE CHRIST), a soldier from a distant planet who they mistake for an enemy and take prisoner. Little do they realise that their real enemy is still at large; a fearsome and malevolent creature known as the Moorwen that also arrived aboard the alien craft. When the Moorwen starts wreaking havoc on neighbouring villages, an unholy alliance is formed between the warring Vikings and Kainan is called upon to slay the beast. But such is its might, that it will take a combination of Kainan's advanced alien technology and the Viking's Iron Age weaponry to defeat it.
Science fiction and fantasy collide in this special effects-laden adventure, which also stars HELLBOY's Ron Perlman and John Hurt.

Hollywood Reporter

It's entertaining nonsense with major league special effects, larger-than-life characters and inventive monsters that draw on the ALIENS and PREDATOR models, being terrifying but also vaguely sympathetic

Something new?

CaaBoom from , 10th September, 2009

Ok I suppose ya reading this just too find out really what this film is about and is any good, is it worth 2 hours of ya time. To be honest I would say yes, why? because there has been an effort to make this film stand out. The film is basically about a modern dragon slayor who ends up going back in time too stop a modern dragon, which has some how slipped into the past with him. As you can imagin people that live in the past are not too impressed about it and do slap him around a bit. A odd actor choice to pick I thought but he seem too play it well. In this movie you will expect gore and I mean heads off and rag doll effects so not really for the PG age mums and dads. Though I dont know why I bother menstioning it since censorship its just a word and nobody seems bother following it but hey dont send me letters lol, I'd just send them back saying at least I follow it. Towards the end the film slips a bit and I mean it looses its edge but hey its not a blockbuster and some blockbusters have done worse so its not percect but I dont think you will knock it too far. :-)

Outlander: A Missed Chance of a SciFi Great

raptor1217 from , 6th March, 2010

Essentially the story of Beowulf with a science-fiction twist, Jim Caviezel is an alien called Kainan (who is human! How…cheap and uninspired) who crashes in 10th century Denmark. Onboard his ship is a deadly alien, that starts killing the local Viking villagers and it’s up to Jim and a bunch of Vikings lead by John Hurt and his sexy daughter Sophia Myles to kill it. The idea while stupid could have been good, but a mix of too many dull moments, and failure to give the hostile alien some personality or give it better sympathy (you see Kainan’s people killed off all the ‘bad’ aliens after taking over their world and this one is angry and out for revenge). The alien design was pretty good, until the close up at the end that looked a bit cheap. A good chance at a decent stupid sci0fi film, that loses out to many times. Worth renting, or buying up cheap.

Good pace - rubbish accents!

A Customer from Wiltshire, 17th February, 2010

Overall a film worth watching, but if bad accents bother you - don't. I really enjoyed it because it was different, but the cast could have done with some serious voice coaching.
